If you want to reuse the location of the stock sub location and install free air be sure whatever sub you buy will be able to fit between the glass and the rear deck. The stock sub is a shallow mount 10inch. Any 8inch and a mdf plate should fit even worse case if the sub has to come up from the middle and drop back down onto a 2 piece plate. Ideally a 1 piece mdf plate would attach and drop in from the top but some subs have deep magnets. If you get a 10inch and want to drop it down from the top then measure or use a sub known to fit. I have an infinity kappa 100.9w an its not even close. I don't know the full list of subs that fit from the top that support free air in 10inch size but the kicker comp and heavy has an older infinity have been mentioned. What do do if it doesn't fit? Attach if from the bottom with a mdf plate but it would hang down and take up a large amount of the trunk. I have considered mounting it inverted/magnet side up from the bottom using 3-5 mdf plates to get the right spacing to get the magnet up as far as I can into the rear deck but under the speaker grill. Based on the amount of work needed to mount it inverted and the pay off between free air and using a box I might just take the easy route and put it in a box and admit defeat from the "replacing stock location" route.

I have an Alpine powered box that taps the line from the factory sub in my car.

RMS power @4 ohms is 200w x 1 channel for my amp.
RMs power @ 4 ohms is 120w for my shallow mount 8" pioneer sub.

I have huge distortion at all gain levels. I tried using the speaker inputs and a LOC. No difference.
Do you think the sub is overpowered??
Any thoughts??????????

this is the amp: http://api.viglink.com/api/click?for...13271058461251

Try substituting a different line in from another source.

Could be something is blown.

And I appreciate your helpfullness, because you were right. The only way I could get this system to work was to use a different in source which in this case was the right rear door speaker and only through the loc.
I even tried a big 10 inch with 350rms out of my truck. The problem must lie with how the signal from the stock sub wiring is crossed over in the stock system and processed through this particular aftermarket amp.
When it did work, without the massive distortion, it was hardly worth the time and money because it didn't introduce much more bass or loudness than stock.

The signal for the factory sub woofer is rolled off so you won't get a full range of frequencies and it may sound distorted if you turn it up.

If you are gonna pull the signal off your left or right ch, it is gonna be lacking bass as that is cut off.

Anybody tried an audiocontrol LC2i to fix the bass rolloff issue.
