What to expect?/ Where to start?
Hey recently purachased 2005 CTS V with 85,000 mi on it and was wondering what to expect? Is there anything notorious that breaks on these cars? Also if there is what is a good preformance brand to upgrade to? I heard the rear end in my car is not the greatest so if it blows i will be putting 4:11's in it, any one brand of gears work better than another? Aside from what to expect, where should i start with upgrades where i will get the most bang for my buck while staying cheap?

Bushings, Cags, and a short throw are necessary to make the car livable.
I also recommend a giant stick and a new NAV disk...
That way when you can't beat away the hordes of hotties that these cars attract you won't get lost when you have to run away from them.

He said it.
MUST MODS:
UUC Short Shift
Motor Mounts
Intake
THEN:
BMR Suspension parts
Tires
Tune
etc

Let me also throw in a vote for a Monster Level 2 clutch + lightweight flywheel. Best dollars I have spent. Revs like a motorcycle compared to stock..
Watch out on motormounts and buy a good brand. I am having MAJOR problems with Creative Steel ones.

The PISNUOFF short shifter is a much cheaper alternative to the UUC, just a bit shorter throw... still get the UUC bushings from Luke at Lindsay though...
My other vote for sure is Hotchkis Sways with collars on the front bar.... firms up steering and makes for much more confident high speed lane switches

UCC shifter
Axle to stop wheel Hop
Maggie!!!
Drive around with Giant smile on face!!
I have headers, zoomers catback, hotchkis, ground control, pulleys, and other mods. They are all good, but the three at the top are the best by a long shot.

1. Poly every mount
2. CAGS
3. Some kind of PCV/Catch system (peace of mind)
4. X-pipe
5. Short-throw shifter
6. Heavier Diff Lube if in warmer climate
7. Annual Surge Tank Cap Change (could be failing radiator culprit)
Someone mentioned intake earlier. Dont sweat the intake manifold, it flows great for stock. As far as Cold Air Intake, there are plenty of aftermarkets and many DIY threads are out there for it.
