Default Buying tires soon... looking for help from my fellow V brothers!

Well guys,
After lowering my V, i decided to stick with the stock size 245/45/18's up front and ran some Good Year Eagle F1 GS D3 275/40/18's out back. Everything fits nice with the drop and looks/rides great. Unfortunately, those 275's have only lasted me about 9k miles so far and they are already at the wear bars. I baby my ride so its not like i've been smoking them off. They are just a super soft tire. I still expected to get better mileage than that! They look great tread wise and fit nice and wide back there though!

Here's the deal... I dont have a lot to spend at the moment. Still in school until next semester and working part-time so I'm looking for a cheap quality replacement set for now. After checking craigslist, i've come across a couple barely used staggered tire packages for good prices but they are 275/35/18 out back and 245/40/18's up front because i guess thats the stock size on a lot of other cars. I've just started looking and i don't need to jump on anything right away but wanted to ask how those of you who run the 275/35 and 245/40 combo like it?

My main concern is fender gap. My cars drop sits perfect on the stock size IMO and i'm afraid if i go shorter on the tires, although the car will be slightly lower to the ground, i might get some of that dreaded 4x4 fender gap back. Im currently on stock springs that have been cut 1 coil in the front and 1 1/4 in the rear.

Thanks for the help in advance guys. Some pics of dropped V's on the shorter tire combo would be very much appreciated!!

Oh, and the tires i am looking at are Dunlop SP Sport 01's which are runflat tires. Anyone have experience with these? Are there any certain tires you guys suggest I run? Looking for something with a nice tread pattern, good performance and good tread life for a daily driver.

I'm on stock size Hankook Evos. Outstanding dry/wet grip, quiet, inexpensive, longevity should be good based on online reviews.

I have the Evo's as well and love them. Much better than my old GY's.

I've got about 800 miles on my hankook ventus v12's. 245/45 f 275/40 r. So far it's been an excellent tire. Smooth ride not too much road noise and I pulled a .96g turn with them, no squeal no hop, just gripped like they should. Paid about 600 with shipping.

U guys got me leaning toward the hankooks! $600 shipped for a new set is nearly unbeatable. I'll do that for sure unless I find a ridiculously good deal on a used set...

Any input on running the 275/35 and 275/40 combo over my current 275/40 and 245/45 combo? Pros/cons?

I'd be careful changing the overall diameter much by going lower profile. IIRC that will cause the traction control to go crazy.

I remember someone saying that in another thread but others chimed in saying that it didn't cause any issues because the overall diameter was lowered evenly both front and rear. Something makes me think it was whistler that said he's run that size with no issues. Or maybe nikon... Lol It was someone with a silver v anyway...

I've never liked the runflats so I always stay away from them. Really heavy tires.

I have heard other negative things in the past about runflats. I seem to remember someone saying they ride like crap over non runflat tires.

I'm not dead set on the dunlops. Just seemed like a good deal at $400 for the set with 90% tread and in the staggered 275/35, 245/40 size. I'm not even sure if I want to drop in height though...

^you're right, don't change the profile of the rears without changing the fronts.
It's the height difference between the front and rear tires that makes the traction control go crazy. You can run low pro's or balloon tires, so long as the front and rear tires are the same height. If you want to run a staggered set get a set that matches the heights as closely as possible. The larger the difference in tire heights the sooner you TC will kick on.

On my old 245/45 front tires when I would swap out the rears to my drag radial 275/35 the traction control would kick on at 55-65mph. Not a problem, you just have to remember to turn off the TC.

I've run my current set of four slightly lower profile 255/40-18 ventus v12's up to "ludicrous speed" with no TC issues. They are obviously a non staggered set, which I prefer on a daily driver. The ventus is a good tire, low road noise, wet traction is great, and they have a stiff enough sidewall that in the turns it doesn't feel like the tire is rolling over the edge of the rim, just don't expect them to hook off the line.

Not sure if you're interested, but I'm currently shopping for a second set of wheels for Winter. I found a nice set locally but they have Goodyear runflats mounted on them w/ only 500 miles. If I buy them I would want to sell the runflats cheap.

I'm still waiting on detailed pictures of the wheels, but if you're interested let me know. PM or e-mail me at Hammrhead@comcast.net

Ok man, thanks for the heads up. I wouldn't mind running a 255 up front but a 45 series might be too tall and a 40 series is slightly shorter than stock. I don't care much about hooking. I don't ever really run my car hard. Its just my daily beater... lol! I get on it every now and then but its usually once i'm already rolling.

My buddy is running a 285/40 and 255/40 combo on his V with stock wheels and says he has no issues. I have yet to see it in person because he lives about 2 hours away from me but i would think the front tires would look significantly shorter than the rears both being 40 series....

I may be interested in 2 if i haven't found anything else by then. Im going to stick with a 275 minimum in the rear but those would make a good set of front tires. Just let me know. Thanks man!

I just had a set of 245/45 Hankook Evo's installed, so far so good, it is a nice looking tire, seems to ride fairly nice, and is a little quieter then the worn out RS-A's that it replaced. From everything i read they sound great, is there better? yes, but for the price you can't beat them. They currently have a $60 rebate which helps. That and discount tire price matched tirerack for me... at $149 a piece.

My front tires are still good at the moment. Might just order the rears for now.

Do the hankooks run wide or narrow? I know different tires fit differently. Nittos seem to run narrow compared to a good year or bfg in the same size.

If they run narrow, I'll prob try a 285/40 for the rear
