the only difference in my design would be id step a solid slug about 1/2 inch so it'll slde into the tube and weld 10X better then the way they did it at the end. ill give my buddy a call at the steel shop and seewhat he can do for me.. then i just have to get over my dads and hop on the lathe.. i also want to measure everything and get it right..ill PM u later tonight..

thats prolly exactly what d3 did.. good call. id still feel better with the stepped slug..little extra time, but the strengh of it would be tripled.

I meant schedule 40...=)

If you really want to redneck the sht out of it, get the pipe the plate, hole saw it out, use a MIG (wire feed), and call it good.

TIG just looks pretty, but no one can see it. You'll feel it though!

Punishment,

This sounds awesome. I'm stoked.

And thanks, Dr. for all of the input. Keep it coming.

Or you can take some round stock, face it on the lathe, drill and bottom tap it for the bolts / studs.

That's what I'd do, except out of aluminum (plenty strong) and put some sort of 'lightening' holes/slots and some grooves on the outside, more for aesthetics (even though you can't see it). Actually, knurled diamond finish would look cool!

However, there's no way in hell I'd ever run solid mounts and especially on a unibody.

btw - remember guys, that 2 1/2" PIPE is not 2 1/2" OD (it's 2.875"); tube is though, although normally a thinner wall.

No reason cross drill the Aluminium. Knurling would just add another surface for dirt to collect. =)

And the nice part about tube is that you can spec whatever wall thickness you want, seamed, or DOM.

If someone wants one, I could make one if someone wants to cover material and shipping.

I would figure less than $20 worth of material. (Could probably make 3-4 sets of mounts)

JNR - 2" pipe = 2.5" OD!

Hell yeah I want one. Either you or Punishment make these suckers, I will be the test mule, pay for material + shipping costs, and review back to the Collective.

Yeah, I wouldn't cross drill the cylinder, but put an array parallel to the studs, so to speak. Not that it would *have to be done* but all that extra material in that direction probably would not add any strength; I mean, look at how strong a pipe or tube is in the direction of the cylinder... [edit - I can see how that sounded on my original post. For clarification, the slots/holes would be inside the cylinder, so to speak, and the grooves on the circumference; think of how a typical "billet" piece looks]

Good point about the knurling and dirt collection. Don't think I would do that anyhow (I have not done that on my lathe, although know how), but purely for looks, even though you cannot see...A bare piece of aluminum would just look so plain and unfinished (that's just me though)

Actually 2" pipe is 2.375" OD [Piping is part of my work]

SHT, you're right. I grapped the chart for PVC instead of SCH40. <hahaha>

But then again...PVC might be cheaper...no welding, just some cement.

anyone have the dimensions of said motormount? Bolt size and length?

I don't want to pull mine just for measurements and be without a ride.

Can someone help a brother out? Give us some specs!
