going fast
Well, what the F did you buy the V for anyway?? Read my repy to "speedo off" posted today. We dont have the cameras here (yet), but I think there's a cover you can put over the plate that makes it unreadable. And the Valentine is also going to warn you too. MAKE THE INVESTMENT! I've saved thousands of dollars in the last 20 years of speeding, I mean driving. Its all a big game to take your money. FIGHT BACK! I won 8 straight speeding tickets in front of judges in a row!!

A common feature these days is GPS based silencing. Say it always goes off when you cruise by a store, you hit a button, and it GPS tags the signal, and learns to ignore it so next time you go by, it doesn't scream at you.
06blackonblackctsv, there are ones that you can get "remote mounted" in the front grille, for "stealth" installs, but you're looking at huge money.
The local porsche dealership around here installs them for about $3-4k. Top of the line units.

Cost of radar detector, plus cost of violation ticket, plus cost of ticket for having radar detector.
I dig the rearview mounted detector.
I wonder if the on-star electronics and things like that will freak out if you unhook all that stuff and replace it with the detector.

If you dont want to pay the price of the V1, look at the Beltronics RX65 Pro Ultimate X/K/Ka Radar Detector, they are a bit cheaper than the v1 and mine has saved my *** quite a few times, and I've had it for several years with no issues...

I like that one that is in the mirror, but I think I am going to go with one that is not detectable and put it near my sun visor, do yall have any good reviews on an non detectable one?

Not trying to preach, but the V1 has worked for me. Only thing it doesn't help with is when you get zapped by the "Laser" signal. It is an instant on/off signal that as soon as it hit me I knew I was busted, except that I was actually driving the speed limit, so the cop just stayed on his bike. I use the V1 when I make the trip between Phoenix and Tucson a lot and anyone who knows that drive will let you know that there is not much out there to keep you driving the 75 speed limit other than the inevitable five or six DPS officers waiting with radar (Ka) signal on. Th V1 has alerted me every time and given me enough time to go from 85ish down to 75. I have no idea if it is the "best" or overpriced, but it works for me.

Escort 9500ix - GPS learning and same sensitivity as the V1... drive to work normally for a week and never worry about false signals again.
The V1 is like having a C4 ZR1 - Everyone knows it's nothing to make fun of, but it's just yesterdays bad ***.

I am surprised that in the 15 years since I graduated high school that radar detectors are still effective. I would have thought that technology would have put the police out of reach of any detection device short of some super expensive or elaborate setup. Might have to invest in one. I always drive about 6-8 over just because I am too cheap to pay tickets, but would sure like to get there sooner.

I've got the Passport Qi45 in my Impala SS. It doesn't have the GPS features, but it only set me back $800 with the laser diffusers. The Qi45 is a remote system & took me an hour to install it by myself. I might swap it into my CTS-V or I might get the GPS enabled Escort STiR (twice the cost of my Qi45). I don't know if the GPS part is worth another $800 though as things like automagically blocking routine bogus signals isn't that big of a deal for me (but is still very cool).
I absolutely love the Qi45 & I loved my Bel Vector LR Remote ($220 in 2001) I had prior. Every time someone's in my car & hears it beep wonders what it was because they can't see it. And the Qi45 is a very solid detector & loud too. Even installed behind the dash bezel, it's *STILL* very loud.

Here is my Qi45 mounted in my Impala. The *ONLY* things visible from outside the vehicle are the diffusers underneath the headlight and the control module (which is the size of your thumb, aka small).
Dash, showing control module (under fuel gauge) & "brains" module (left edge in the hole under temp gauge. hole is from where my Vector Remote was installed):
Front bumper with hood open, showing radar antenna (near triangle at right) & laser diffuser (underneath the headlight):
Laser diffuser under driver side headlight:

I know the Valentine is dated but it still has the edge with the directional sensor.... I'm hooked on knowing where "the man" is, not simply knowing he's out there somewhere. I also have the concealed display which is mounted on the steering wheel column... it's the first thing you see when looking down at how fast you're going... or... the last thing you see before red lights in the mirror when it's a laser LEO... lol
I think I read about Valentine’s patent being up in a few years so the others should follow suit... or at least I would hope they would

I thought jammers were illegal? Or is that old news...
When I was driving the V, I NEVER got pulled over. There were times i got through speed traps swearing I was going to get pulled over. Thought they figured it was some old fart... I dunno.
Guess ive just been lucky.
I feel like I got more tickets with the radar detector then without (i was also a teen). I had the mentality like a lot of other people that it was a cop detector... not a radar detector. You dont have to be a rocket scientist to realize thats false. Plus once they saw it, it was a guranteed ticket... got to the point where I had to remove it when i did get pulled over.
I find that paying attention to traffic and things around you... which you should be doing anyways... is the best bet. In the very unlikely event that doesnt work, your body language and how you treat the officer plays the next biggest roll. When that doesnt work, there are plenty of ways to get them reduced to parking tickets. I average 1 every 2-3 years. At under $100 bucks a pop it would take me 20 years to pay off a laser jammer setup. Im happy paying the fine to be able to drive how I want.
With that being said, I dont speed through school zones or do more then 5-10 over for long periods of time on the streets... thats just asking to be pulled over. But freeway, im always over... i dont see the harm in that.

Radar jammers: illegal
I too rely on paying attention MOST of the time. TWICE when not paying attention, even when I had my Vector Remote, I got tickets. Once was windows down, nice spring day, radio cranked, jamming to the song, missed the detector going off soon enough. The other was small road, he was coming right at me & we were about 50yds apart when he turned on the radar. Had I been paying attention, I might've not gotten them.

Where the hell is bluff city TN? I thought I was in the bluff city..
Check out the phone app trapster. It isn't a radar detector but it will point out known speed traps, real time traps(if someone reports it) red light cameras, speed cameras etc. You can set different sound alerts for different things.. The data is peovided by other users who also use the app. Not an end all by any means but could save you a few bucks on a road trip if you don't run a detector.
