$1 fix... I'm in! Lol Is the arm rest supposed to sit up that high? Both the arm rests on my tan interior and my black interior sit lower than that closer to the storage pocket. I didn't think they were broken because they both sat in the same position but maybe they are both broken? They don't rattle or anything and move up and down smoothly so I didn't think anything was wrong with them until I saw this. So are they supposed to sit up higher like the regular CTS arm rest?

^ I would think level is correct. Mine sits closer to the storage pocket too but I seem to remebmer it being higher at some point.

I thought the arm was always to low. The standoff level the arm out.

PM'd you.

How exactly do they work? Can't tell from the pics.

And I'm not sure if my armrest is broke the same way yours is. The underside of mine seems to have broke through, allowing the armrest to sit lower. I don't think anything is wrong with the actual hinge that the armrest pivots on.

With your fix, are you able to put any amount of weight on it now without messing it up again?

When I got my 1,300 mile '05 last year the armrest did sit level like the one in the pic above. Then I leaned on it and it broke - sort of. It still goes up and down, but farther down than it used to.

I see what he did now. He added the 2 square rubber feet under the rear of the armrest where it is hinged. When you put the armrest in the down position it rests on the rubber feet.

Looks like a cheap fix worth trying.

Hmm... I'll have to do this on mine then. I wonder why they didn't just use the standard CTS arm rest in all of the cars? If it's supposed to sit up this high, why not just have the extra storage compartment in the arm rest? That's my thinking anyway

They made a special arm-rest for the V to ensure that it did not interfere with shifting.

I ended up putting a standard CTS armrest in my V because my short arms wouldn't reach the V armrest. Much happier with the height now and I can still shift it just fine.

You are not alone in that thinking. More than a few of us have installed the CTS arm rest because the V arm rest is pointless and prone to breaking.

The V-6 CTS was also available with a stick, so that doesn't really make sense.

Standard CTS armrest is too tall for me. Makes for a weird angle for shifting with my long arms. I used the same concept as the OP to fix my armrest by wedging something in at the pivot point. I had a rectangular hard sunglasses case that I secured with double sided tape horizontally on the back wall of the storage area right under the armrest. Makes it sit level and allows me to put my full weight on it getting in to the car. I also put new bolts in the front part of the armrest with large flat washers on the underside so they won't pull through again.

This is what i thought, and i like it better all the way down since it seems to flow with the shifter better

LOL, I was thinking the same thing.

Have you put some weight on it to see if it causes any damage at the hinge point?

My arm would always slide down the armrest and I hated it.
Right now it perfectly level with the shifter.
My elbow does not hit the armrest at all.

My armrest is level again.

The $1.00 fix ending up costing me $4.48 total(had to purchase a 12 pack of the rubber feet + $1.99 shipping), but I still have 10 left! Now I just have to figure out what to do with the extras???

Anyway - Good Idea. Thanks for sharing!
