FWIW you can get a C6Z06 for high 30's to low 40's if you catch the right deal on the forums.
Unless you need a 4-door or there is just something about the V2 you love, I'd still go with a Z06. Hard to beat the power to weight and the awesome MPG. The V2 seems like a fantastic car, but even with that, I can't hardly justify 18-19mpg highway with the amount of driving I do (~60 miles a day).

I'll be in the same boat as you in a few years. I'm only going to do a cam, since I can do it for cheap, then just enjoy the car. I'll either sell the car and pick up a V2 or buy a Syclone/Typhoon and do a full build on that keeping this as a fun DD. It's really just kinda pointless dumping the amount of money it would take to get these things to perform to there full potential. Although you forgot a key part of your build
*paint car a real color so all these mods aren't useless.

fwiw i would imagine there are more evo/wrx guys who work on their vehicles then vette or cts-v guys. just because its an import doesnt make it a ricer mobile same as us having a caddy doesnt make it an old persons slush mobile.

I can't justify buying a c6 z06 for my work car and I sometimes need a back seat. I really considered going with a V2, but decided that I really like the look of the V1 and I would undoubtedly spend way more than just the upgrade to the V2 because I would start modding it.
I am waiting on my heads to get here and then my install will begin
230/238 cam
Tricklow 225's
FAST 102
NW 102
Mcleod clutch
Cut Outs
I'll let you know how it turns out.

Cole, your original post sounds very similar to what I've been fighting with too here lately. The down side to building on a vette is that everyone and their momma has one. I know several 1000-1200rwhp C6Z street cars. Now a fast V (whether it be a V1 or V2) would be unique.

I am mainly sold on a Z because it is a fast in stock form, and the amount of money I have spent on mods for the V. That would have built me a 10 seconds Z. I dont want to have a 1200whp street car. To me that is overkill, because how useful it is really. My goal for a Z would be 550 to the wheels on motor, and if i grew the nuts, 700 on spray. a 550whp Z would spank a 550whp V2 every day, thanks to the fact that its not a fat ***. but the thing is, V is 4 doors and a back seat (dont have kids, but who knows what will happen in the next 2 years) and it is WAY WAY nicer on the inside.
The real choice is do I want to be fast all the time, or do I want to be slower and have more luxuary.

It sounds like you're going to be at a loss regardless of which option you choose since you still owe on an aging V1. I think for sure you should toss out option #3. No sense in building/investing in something you'll never get return on and something you'll likely never be happy with. #2 sounds way too expensive. Why pay 2 car notes and having one vehicle just sitting there? If you're OK with the loss, I'd look at making the best deal you possibly can on trading or selling the V and going with the Z. If you're going to building it up, find a mid-to-high mile '05 - '06 Z and build away.
As for the V2 or the Z, it's simple, IMO. Z if you don't expect to have kids in the next few years. V if you have kids or expect to have them while you still own the car. When my wife and I had kids, we were OK with just her 4-door sedan (I had a C5 FRC) until we had our second child (we now have 3) and they started getting older and more active and we had to split time toting them around. It was all about logistics at that point - and still is with all the school stuff, soccer practices, volleyball, gymnastics, piano, ... ugh...
I'm waiting for the day my oldest gets her license so I can get my Z and she (and her mom) can be the mutli-occupant taxi.
