I was hoping to install a cam and a MP112 in my CTS-V (2006 LS2) this spring, and the kit that I was looking at was the G5X3, which you can see right here.

Obviously, I'm new at this, but I wasn't planning on running straight out and buying all of this stuff without doing a whole bunch more research (as you'd expect from someone getting his M.S. in electrical engineering). Can you shed some more light on why a lot of lift + maggie = bad, or point me in the right direction to understand this better?

You could also look into the LS9 cam. Its cheap $120~, and will work nicely with your future boosted LS2. (It comes to about the same price as a regular cam with all required crap for us LS6 guys unfortunately).

Lingenfelter - "The 2009-2010 LS9 ZR1 camshaft is a perfect choice for LS supercharged or turbocharged engines. The LS9 camshaft is 211/230 @.050 valve lift and .558/.552 lift with 1.7 rockers and a 122.5 centerline.

Before the LS9 was introduced LPE used the GT7 camshaft that John Lingenfelter designed in 2001 to be the perfect camshaft for boosted LSx applications. The GT7 was 208/230 @.050 valve lift and .554/.546 and 121 center line this camshaft produced excellent power and still had great street driveablity. In 2009 GM introduced the LS9 in the C6 ZR1 supercharged Corvette engine. After comparing specifications on the camshaft and finding out how economical this is due to it being mass produced Lingenfelter discontinued the GT7 and started using the LS9 in supercharged or turbocharged applications.

The LS9 camshaft is a 3 bolt design and will use the Lingenfelter 3 bolt cam conversion kit if you are installing it in a single bolt application like the 2007 – 2010 LS2 or LS3. If you are installing it in an earlier LS1 or LS6 engine with the cam sensor at the back of the engine you will need a 2005 LS2 front cover, 2005 1x cam sprocket, camshaft extension harness, 2005 LS2 chain dampner.

If you are installing this in a 2010 Camaro L99 engine you also will need to replace L99 lifters with LS3 lifters and lifter guides. Replace L99 front cover with a LS3 front cover. While the heads are off you may also want to replace the L99 valves with the lighter 2.160" hollow stem LS3 intake valves, 1.59" heavy duty Inconnel exhaust valves."

I should note I'm absolutely no cam guru. I only say the above because there is something to be said about drive-ability and ease of tuning with stock GM parts.

You cannot beat a stock cam for drivability. Another route to go would be an LS7 (C6 Z06) cam....211/230 .558"/.558" on 120* LSA. The LS7 uses 1.8 rockers, so its lift is actually .591" in the LS7...divide .591 by 1.8 and multiply by our 1.7 rockers and you get .558".

I would love to have this on a 114* or 115* since the higher LSA (120* +) will make most power way up top,out of the range of our 112's. Factory installs the LS7 cam 3* retard, I would probably go 5* to bring the power band down in the RPM range a little for more useable power.

Those are stock, but look like new stock ones. The paint still looks good on them.

Tagging onto this thread.

I'm getting a P0300 code under hard acceleration. So I decided to take a look at the valve springs to make sure none were broken.

Since this is a LS6, aren't they suppose to be yellow?

I'm going to replace them anyway. I think I'm going to so a fuel pump too.

Looks like there was some color stripe on them at one time. Unless the color eventually disappears.

Older ls6 engines had the non yellow valve springs. However I'm not sure if those are them.

I'm getting nervous. I'm going to replace the springs and the fuel pump. I wasn't planning on doing a rebuild anytime soon.
I also wasn't planning on doing the lift in the garage until late next year.
(providing the world doesn't end in a few months)

When I swapped my 04's springs they had no color on them. I replaced them with new LS6 springs which were colored blue.

My 04 had colorless springs as well, swapped them out with some ls9 springs. Looks just like mine did. 100K on the motor when I pulled my heads off.
