I get what you're saying though
Also, thanks to 54inches for being a stand up guy and posting links and prices for the LS7 clutch kits.
That's good info for the future, I certainly appreciate it!

Lightening it is great, but a flywheel that is TOO light is a bad idea.
My statement was regarding STOCKish cars with stockish power, not a Maggied V. Apples and Oranges my friend.
I think I'd go insane before ever hitting the "1000k mile" break in lol

Anytime meaty! After scouring both forums forever, I thought it would be better to put it down in one place to help for the future.....
As soon as I get my supplies in, I am going to HOPEFULLY post install photos of everything....

I used to work with a bunch of old hill-billy ex dirt track guys (they used to run around with Morgan Shepard back in the day) and they swore up and down that anything heavier than what the engine needed to idle was too much. Not saying that this is right or wrong, but funny how things have changed.

I've encountered the same story about "aluminum flywheels are too light for street cars" with each of my cars. My torque-monster N/A Subaru has a 9.5# Fidanza (stock was ~22#), and my Mustang has an 11.5# Fidanza (not sure what that stocker weighed). I've never had any drivability issues with either.
I just ordered the Scoggins-Dickey LS7 kit with the RAM aluminum flywheel. I debated doing the LS9X setup from Katech, but I really don't need it. I might change my mind, though.

Me too! I am thinking the lightweight flywheel MAY wear out the disc quicker, but that is just a hunch.
I am merely going off what GM intended fornthe vette and using that as a basis for our car. There are no definites in this swap, so I think all the info we can get in one thread is going ton help; as long as it pertains to the V.

Thanks for all the help guys. I'm going to have to hold off on changing the flywheel for a little bit longer because I just picked up a 5 speed transmission for my Corvette. I can live with the vibrations in the V a little longer, but I can't take driving the Corvette another season with that damn 3 speed auto.

Are they any viable solutions for those of us don't need the peformance upgrade, but would JUST like to dump the dual mass flywheel?
It seems like GTO parts or G8 GXP parts would be compatible. Second hand parts seem plentiful and it doesn't look like they get hit with the Caddi tax.

I installed a LAPD bleeder when I replaced my clutch with the Monster stage 3 and can't imagine going back to bleeding the slave next to the bell housing. Been there, hated every second of it. Get a bleeder!!
I also have a 18 lb flywheel and LOVE it. Highly recommended.
Also, a clutch job should cost closer to $300.

If you scroll to the end, A couple days ago it was mentioned that the sale was still going on
