Quick ls3-ls6 valve train Q?
I have a ls6 and would like to do some maintenance. I have a deal on some ls3 takeout beehive valvesprings, retainers, locks, stock single bolt cam, valve seals with spring seats, and pushrods. Would all of that fit?
Thanks Dave

Why would you go through all that to put an LS3 cam in? The cam is ground for sqaure port heads, not cathedral. If you did go that route, you would need an LS3 timing cover for the relocated cam sensor (read, rerouting wires) as well as the timing set for the single bolt cam. Also, don't ever reuse valve seals. They are cheap and easily damaged so just buy new. But again, why?

It would probably fit with changing the timing cover, etc., but would get you nowhere..maybe even cost you a few. A used 224 cam would probably be your best bet on the cheap.

Sorry guys I should have been more clear. I don't want to install the cam. I want to just to put all the other stuff on the heads. My motor is almost at 150k and I have seen some people break some springs around there. Its about 20 bucks for all the new take off parts. So first of all is it worth it and second will it fit?

Might work, think a stock LS3 cam is around .550" lift. I think you would still be better off buying the stock yellow Z06 springs that are OE on our motors for $70 though. I would not worry about valve seal unless you are getting a puff of smoke on start up or burning oil pretty bad. I would get those new as well if needed.

The OE valve seals are actually molded to the spring retainer....looks like a hat, not just the basic seals. I would call a few dealers and find out.
Your locks are reusable unless damaged and do not usually need to be replaced.

The LS3 cam does not have the reluctor on the back of the cam like LS1/6 cams. There is a 2x reluctor on the back of the cam and that is where is picks up its position. LS3 uses the cam sprocket for position so if you did install an LS3 cam, you would have to uses the LS2/3 timing cover and the LS3 sprocket for cam timing. However, if he is not is not installing the cam, then it's no issue. However, you cannot uses the LS3 sprocket on the LS6/2 cam because they went to the single bolt.
