I'm tempted to cut the top off of my UUC shifter and weld on some threaded rod so that I can run one of these *****. Any downsides to doing this?

Has anyone driven one of Brian's shifters? I doubt many have driven both the KaLatch or the "pissinuoff" shifter to give an opinion on them but I figured I'd ask.

I chuck them in a lathe and use a thread die. I usually thread them 9/16-18. There isn't enough material to thread them any larger.

I just ordered a weighted ball from Flossy ***** (shopflossy.com) and asked if he could thread a ball to fit the katech shifter. He was going to build me one with the 5/8-18 threads so I will let you know how it turns out. I ordered a flossy shop grip tape heavyweight.

they were going to get a tap this week so I should have it in the next couple weeks.

I installed my jw winco ball and its amazing. I need to figure out how to get the ball to a brushed stainless appearance vs the mirror like appearance it has now. I also do not like how the boot sits. It sits similar to the OP I will post pics tonight. It is just like a long ball on a shaft as the boot forms to the shifter.

the mirror finish will tarnish and fade, i what ever finish you spray on make sure you clear it.

as far as the boot.. get as nut thread it on and put a washer over that, then slip the boot on and use a spacer to pinch the boot between the washer and spacer when the **** is tightened down. at least thats how i have mine set up and i love it

if you look at that old pic above, replace that big *** washer with a spacer of your choice and that's the way mine is setup now

how mine is set up... i like the little gap the spacer creates between the washer and the ****
1. the black spacer is an old bmx bar end -- first pic shows a smaller washer instead
2. silver washer
3. boot
4. silver washer
5. 5/8-18 nut
