Default Rear end casing broken

04 CTS V -

Went to track last night and broke two of the ears on the rear casing, any suggestions on an inexpensive replacement\upgrade would be appreciated. I've been doing some reading but not sure what the latest word is. Anyone have anything for sale please let me know.

Track days are over for me and this car.

Thanks, Joe

Used gen 4 rear end is the cheapest fix. 8.8 or a 9 inch will solve the problem for good.

Also would like to mention this was my first trip to the track (and my last) and probably only my 3rd burnout since I've owned the car.... They should come with a dress...

if you cannot afford the 8.8 or 9 inch rear end, i really suggest the gforce1320 axles with the stock differential. wheel hop is what broke your differential.

I got them on a false assumption (that they came with CV's), and they didn't. I then realized my CV's were fine, and I had just snapped an axle. I put the drivers side gforce1320 in and drove home, and I went sideways on a few shifts rather than hopping, but there was still a little bit of hop. I said **** it and threw the passengers side in, and I was legitimately blown away. The wheel hop is a good 90+percent gone. I will not be dumping the clutch at like 5,000+rpm, but I have issue doing a soft launch and banging gears.

Any ideas on where I may find a used one? Before I spend $1700 or so for a new grenade I'm thinking it may be better to just go ahead with the 8.8 solution with new axles. Kind of in a time crunch to get it going as it is my daily...

Has anyone purchased a carrier from a regular CTS and swapped over the R&P? I see they are going for a couple hundred bucks all day long.

Just exploring all options at this point.

I really don't ever remember having any wheel hop issues... Not saying it wasn't but anytime I wanted to play around a little I turned off the traction control which I figured would eliminate the potential for wheel hop. Is this not correct?

I'm guessing this is where they normally fail? Both ears were tore up and the carrier was being held in by my exhaust.

If it were that easy, there wouldn't be so many alternative solutions to this problem. I'd gamble, and quite a few others here, would as well, that wheel hop is what broke your diff.

I have a stock rear out of a 2005 CTS/SRX. Replaced due to noise. I was gonna just scrap it but figured I'd hang onto it in case a V guy wanted to rebuild it. Make me an offer, I have pictures if you'd like.

Couldnt the ears be welded back on for a cheap fix? maybe add a urethane mount while your at it? just a thought...

Not sure but I will certainly find out, thanks

Looks like a little weld job will hold me over (and get the wife off my back) until I decide on a 8.8 conversion. I will just baby the crap out of it until then

04 CTS V-
New engine, cammed, headers, QTP cutouts, track time = blown rear...

Can someone confirm for me that the two rear mounting holes that hold the carrier in are threaded and not bolt\nut with a bushing. It looks like it was threaded but hard to see at this point.

Ok, probably a stupid question, but what is the trick to getting the two bolts out that hold the rear end in. The bolts are long and are hitting the spare tire storage when trying to back them out...

Penn, when you decide to get rid of your busted casing, I will take it.
