Heavy,

What do you think about a smartphone interface instead of a Car Computer ?

I know on my phone I can have hdmi output as well as bluetooth mouse/keyboard input

btw, what's the resolution on the built in display?

I think that would be interesting, I will look forward to anyone who does this (the display mod) to report on what they plug into it.

The display resolution I have to see what the limitations are as it uses a composite sync signal rather then a separate H and Y.

Since it is good enough to watch a DVD on, I don't see it as a problem (yet!).

thanks Heavy for all your efforts.
The 2009 model has the right dimensions to replace the cd changer (6.5" x 6.5").

That DOES NOT MEAN that you can't use a different model and mount it elsewhere, or for that matter a different CPU.

Here is a funny story (I have about a million of them).

I was senior dev. eng. in a R&D lab and we built prototypes and engineering samples.

I would tell the engineers who were cocky as **** that if they pissed me off, I would "build to spec".

I had one guy turn white when I said that.

I was known for building stuff from a sketch on a napkin.

Back on topic, the circuit board net list and artwork were approved at about 1am this morning.

I expect boards and parts next week.

I have been requested to show a working sample ASAP.

Why would we listen to accountants? They aren't engineers.

UPDATE PICTURES.

Good thing I had a nibbler tool!

For those of you who wonder why I chose a Mac Mini, the slots even line up!

( I made an error and had to remove more material then what is marked on the rear as "remove this")

I can't disclose the nature of my job, or I'd give you a better feel for my abilities. Suffice it to say that I did my undergrad at UIUC with significant course credit and research credit in electromagnetics (linear phased arrays), optics (microcavity plasma lighting), and VHDL/Verilog. I'm presently 2/3 of the way through my MSEE at RPI.

I only have two years of work experience, and Heavy has been around for a long time. I might be more up to date is some specific areas, but he has decades of prototyping experience and a lab. The real reason why the idea stalled was extreme scope creep (we wanted to revamp certain portions of the instrument cluster) plus a lack of time due to moving 1000 miles away from home and starting a master's program.

That was the whole point of doing this.

Retain the OEM stock functions, but bring it to "state of the art" (at least for an obsolete car!) and beyond.

The new V's don't have this.

LS1 tech is the first to see it come together.

FYI I worked on modifying a display till 2 am.

I used 30 gauge (0.010" dia) magnet wire and had to work with a microscope.

Is there anything we can do to help, or are you more interested in seeing community-developed software and hardware tweaks after the fact?

Thanks for the offer!

I have spent more time then I want to admit to looking at applications.

There are all kinds!
