Default Heavy's ULTRA RADIO MODIFICATION

You all know what I think of the radio/nav.

I have returned to this project and hopefully will have some real good news in a couple of weeks, no thanks to DELPHI or GM.

Here is a teaser:

The radio with the front removed (no ****!).

The radio with the cd changer removed.

The SUPER MOD, like putting a V8 in the CTS........

(It is a Apple Mini Mac and IT FITS!)

The goal is to retain all the OEM functions and add a few of my own.

I have a circuit design for the display to be used as a VGA monitor, so it can be switched between the radio and computer.

I have a touch screen overlay for the OEM display for computer input.

The Mini will put out 5.1 digital audio and I have a decoder for 5.1 to install in the rear deck.

I plan on bypassing all the BOSE ****.

There are OBDII to USB cables and software so here comes carputer!

There are USB analog input cards, so hello real time telemetry.

The mini has Bluetooth and wireless internet, but the case may block the antenna for internet.

There are Bluetooth devices for pressure and temp monitoring.

I leave it to the imagination on what is possible.

I forgot, I also added a backup camera.

Just so you guys know, this is not an original idea.

http://codeidol.com/hardware/car-pc/...i-in-Your-Car/

I just want to keep all the OEM functions (except the cd changer).

You are going to make 60 copies for sale to those of us who don't quite feel like duplicating your effort right ?

seems to good to be true. I remember you saying that this route was a no go because of the stock navs software and that a solution would cost more than a V1 is worth haha. This would be a game changer for everyone that doesn't want to give up the only way to get error codes from the BCM

What I was thinking about at the time was interpreting the error codes.

That I gave up on because of development cost.

What this mod does is allow the screen to accept an external VGA signal and I add a touch overlay (USB) to the screen.

I also added an NTSC backup camera input.

Unfortunately, it isn't "plug & play", the display board has to be modifed.

A "daughter card" has to be wired in.

Thanks for the kudos, I will have extra circuit boards made.

A friend and I (both MSEEs) considered doing this about a year ago, but our talks were purely speculative because the time investment was considered to be prohibitive.

I'll be watching this with great interest, and might be willing to throw my weight behind it if it seems like it'll pan out.

If any of you are thinking about doing this, I suggest you read these articles.

http://www.macvroom.com/

http://my.safaribooksonline.com/book...-chp-4-sect-15

I would like to know what would be the "best" way to make the mod available.

Send the radio to me?

I send a modified display and user installs?

I don't think there are that many that want to cut traces and micro solder

After seeing the radios trashed from people just trying to replace the glass, I am a bit concerned.
