I was thinking of doing matte white but only if the car was lowered first. But matte white with black accents and maybe even a black roof would look badass..

I will donate 10$ on it. As long as I can get a receipt so as to claim it on next years taxes as a charitable donation.

Incorrect. Would only take maybe one or two more coats than any other color. They sell the dip in quantities large enough to do entire cars and it only costs a few hundred dollars for EVERYTHING you need to do the job. WAY cheaper than a vinyl wrap.

getting a body shop to do an overall color change will cost 5-10k and up! Most shops will not even do them anymore since there is too much time involved and they do not make alot of money at it. Since fixing 10 fender benders is more profitable and ultimately quicker.

Plasti Dip will only cost around 500$ for a whole car and pick your color. The prep time involved is minimal (since you do not sand, only clean the surface) and it is only temporary (if peels off). It does chip and peel in spots where rocks hit it, or you did not clean well enough, but that is the idea, that you can change the color of your car cheaply and then go back to stock whenever you want. people plasti dip brand new cars to protect the original paint and make it last longer.

Peeling it off is easy enough, but will def take some time. And prepping is cleaning, and masking, Thats it! So for 500$ and some time you can change colors of your car easily. Then, when you're bored with it in a year peel it off and go back to stock, or plati dip it another color!

If my car wasnt thunder, I would do it. If I had a black car I def would do white with the black roof, grills, wheels and tint.

500 dollars is wayyyyyy too high. It's like 50 bucks, and when you get tired of it, you can peel it off. I did a WRX wagon before with 8 cans, and 2 cans was just wasting it going over places that didn't need to be gone over.

Really? That's badass, I've been thinking of doing this for a while after reading that thread on the V2 the guy did a few months back, for $50 what's to lose! hmm...

I mean I had masking tape, razor blades and newspaper just hanging out here but that's a drop in the bucket.

500$ is low to have someone plasti dip your car. And 50$ to DIY is wayyyyyyy low. If it was only 50$ my car would be a different color everytime I went to "mexico" to street race.

Keep track of how much $ you spend. The material itself, tape, paper, plastic, cleaner, rags, everything! I think is going to surpass 50$ in a hurry.

Edit: Also, you are going to want to make sure you have good coverage, and not cheap out by going thin. Thin plasti dip= a huge pain in the **** to remove.

DISAGREE alert.

I was going from Black powdercoat wheels to RED plastidip.

Coverage SUCKS going to a lighter color.

I went through three cans on two wheels and I gave up.

With white, expect to buy at least 10-15 cans; guessing here.

As far as the price. I can't get it locally, so it was about $10 a can shipped.

You can do the math from here.

Oh wait, some of you can't. That would be $150.

If you're going to dip an entire car, I have no idea why youd bother trying to do it with f'ing aerosol cans... You buy it by the gallon and use a spray gun..

White over Dark blue on a GMC 2500 full size truck took 6 gallons plus glossifier (optional). http://www.dipyourcar.com/forums/sho...D-600hp-1200tq

For a car, you'd need even less. 4.5-5 Gallons most likely.

At 60 bucks a gallon thats $360 at the most, for dip plus whatever other supplies you need.
Hell the kits which include EVERYTHING (including the paint gun) to spray your car range from $350-$415.

Not exactly a super CHEAP project but still a small fraction of the cost of a vinyl wrap. Not to mention the fact that your paint/clearcoat doesnt get F'd up in the process, and you can EASILY peel it off anytime if you dont like it.. Another bonus? You can do spot touch-ups if the dip happens to get gouged as opposed to having to re-wrap repaint an entire body panel.

Me and a bud were planning on buying the kit with sprayer, got carried away with my engine build. But I still see getting one before summer. It looks like fun to do, and maybe even charge a few bucks to friends who want it done.
My friend asked a painter to do it for him before, and he said just buy it and do it yourself it's fool proof. I think the paint shop was asking 300, but it must not even be worth their time.
