Default Sleeper cam for V?

I've been toying with the idea of throwing a super stealthy sleeper cam in my V. Of course, having a full exhaust system will only accentuate any slight lope, but it is what it is.

Who has had a good experience with a sleeper cam? How smooth was idle? Any added vibration?

Contact a vendor and tell them what you want from the cam. There are definetly options out there that will gain solid power with little to no evidence sound wise. You can also do things in the tune to make it even less noticeable.

Personally I love cam lope and even more so coming from a cadillac.

Yeah I totally get the concept of a cammin caddy. As it is people have to look two (or three) times just to make sure they heard right. But to me, it's a Cadillac, not a dragster, so it needs to retain its smooth character that the name implies (even though the V itself departs from that!)

Martin from Tick Performance advised me to go with the LS2 Street Heat Stage 1 cam (yes, you read that right.) 225/230 .61X/.60X 114+4.

Oh yeah, and I don't want people to know what hit 'em til they're sucking my exhaust, and I want them to be scratching their heads if they get the chance to stop with me afterwards. Some people have no idea what that V symbol means.

That cam has no overlap so it should idle really smooth. Raise the idle rpm a little bit and i bet it sounds stock.

I like the one I got from PatG/EPS but always wish I went bigger. Not too much lope.

I like the cam. One major requirement for me is that it hold a decent idle even on a hot day with the AC cranking.

As is it gets a little extra lopy on and off throttle when its cold.

Saw a MS3 LS6 V the other day. Really not sure it would idle with AC on. But god it sounded good.

How's the vibration with a cam? I know even a stock car has a little shake but I want to minimize it.

there is some shake. I am still on stock engine mounts(no issue yet) but plan on going to stiffer mounts soon.

There are two types of bothersome vibrations in a car-- buzzing (high frequency) and shaking (low frequency).

The vibrations that result from camming the car will be an interaction between the cam and the mounts. A more solid mount like the UMI will transfer almost all engine movement into the chassis, resulting in more shake. By contrast, a very soft mount like the stocker will have the engine jumping around in the engine bay like a popcorn maker, and this will feel like higher frequency vibrations in the car.

In my case, with the stock cam and UMI mounts, I had a fair amount of vibration at idle and low RPMs that would rattle the sunroof and one particular place in the dash. However, with the 228/236 111+3 cam, the high freq vibes are completely gone. Instead, the car gently rocks from side to side at idle.

My guess would be that if you are going with a low to no-overlap cam, then you would be more concerned with high frequency vibes. The best motor mounts for that situation would be revshift's softer poly mounts.

I have tuned vehicles with the torquer v3, and Lingenfelter gt-9. Both had great drivability.

I would follow Martin's advice. If you were very clear on exactly what you were looking for he will not let you down. All of the Tick boy's are excellent people to deal with. They have a stellar rep for a reason.

Thank you for the kind words.

The cam I recommended has zero degrees of overlap. It will be definitely be a sleeper for sure while making great power across the board.

It won't pump out Polluter or MS4/T-rex numbers, but it will be a solid driver.

Yeah Martin I had to hang up the other day, I was driving. Once I can find a shop to quote me for swapping my LS into my truck *hint hint* and I get it done, it'll be time for an intake and stealthy cam for the V! I can't wait!
