I'm assuming the tech was seeing if the actuator for the temp door was working. It could be that the actuator is working, but the door itself isn't moving. If the door was broken, it may not move, but would allow the actuator to move. That's the only thing I can think of that would allow it to blow cold when all the way on hot. Any other possibility would either have the actuator not working, or it would at least blow warm air.

It can, but I can't come up with a scenario in my head where it blows ice cold air out the vents, but the actuator is actually working. On some actuators, there are linkages and pivots and such, that could possibly keep it from overextending itself. I have no idea if our cars have them, because I've never had to go into one of these dashes yet.

i bought the cts-v from nesluopetan, just drove it from utah to north carolina with no problems. when i got home i noticed the passager side floor was soaked could this have anything to do with the heater not working? it also rained pretty hard on my way home to so maybe that has something to do with it

Just to put in my experiences... both of my cars...base cts and V... had heat issues. The heat was ice cold on the driver side and very very mild on the passenger side.. both cars were resolved with a heater core flush.
to me, if all the doors are working, the inlet and outlet lines are hot, and yet no warm air.... sounds like the core is plugged up and water is coming in and right back out without going through the entire heater core.

There's a few chapters missing here. I have '10 DTS with similar heater issue. Did Nate ever find a fix? Sounds like he just sold the problem to Doug. Did Doug find the real problem cause? Getting my thermostat changed tomorrow along with a core flush and I'll throw in a coolant change to cover some of the possible causes mentioned in this great, if inconclusive thread. Loved all the inputs, made for an interesting read, back soon.

Hey, so it took awhile.. wanted to be sure I had it fixed before giving a followup.... had the heater core flushed and changed the engine thermostat and I've had no problems since. If problem reoccurs in the future I'll let you know. Maybe my case was different though, right? but it sounded the same.
