I thought everyone always posted SAE, so for comparison sakes, and not that it really matters, so did I. hmmm

I hope it works out....

Not my choice. I dropped the car off and that's the dyno sheet they provided. That's not my main concern right now, anyway. Tracking down where this oil is coming from is.

Just thinking outloud. My apologies.

I always thought that excess oil in the intake manifold had to do with the PCV, but I'm not an engine builder or sure if it could make its way from the valves up there. Good luck.

Right, but the only thing that has changed is the cam. Shouldn't be using this much oil, if any at all. I will try to do a compression test sometime soon, although it sucks doing on this car.

I decided to change the oil to 5w40 today. I was running Castrol Syntec Edge 5w30, and with 3k miles on it, seemed pretty watery to me. I got a sample to send to Blackstone, although that's going to take a few weeks, but I'm curious to see what comes back. I've heard of people having to run slightly thicker oil to help with consumption, but I know it's a bandaid.

How many miles on the motor? Still on factory springs/valve seals?

Nice results with the cam BTW

75k and hell no, not stock valve springs (Lunati). I actually expected a bit more power but then again my pushrods were too short so that gave up some power I am sure.

The results are in and it's not good:

Blackstone Oil Analysis
Attachment 725329
High aluminum, chrome, and iron. As for my DIY catch can, it only has a few drops in it after ~95 miles of driving, and I've made sure to give it some WOT pulls. I'll continue to monitor the oil and have another analysis done at 2500 miles on the new oil (switched to Rotella T6 5w40). Good times...

Not long enough pushrods would increase deflection on the valve stems, this would add premature wear to the valve guides.
all these lifters used on LS are zero lash.. so no, you wouldnt give up power.

As for oil, i use LS30 Joe Gibbs, nothing else.

I'm not sure how that's possible because at some point, you could have a pushrod in there short enough to where it wouldn't even touch the rocker. Let's say you put a 5" rod in there (just as an example), and the lifter tried to make up the difference. My pushrods were a whole 0.1" too short, which is quite a bit.

I've put about 300 miles on the car and the dipstick still reads full and less than 1 oz. of oil in my catch can. Looks like Rotella T6 is making a considerable difference. It would also appear that whatever piston wear occurred, it has either stopped or at least not gotten worse.

Ok, well since this motor is clearly hurt, my current plan is to get a used LS2 or LS3 block and run LS3 heads (obviously on the LS3, but also on LS2). After doing some research, I think I might spec my own cam, just for fun. It's nothing extreme, so I'm not worried about it making power or driving like crap.

Here's what I came up with: 227/235 .614/.621 112+2 on LSL lobes
That combo should make great mid-range torque and have good street manners. Thoughts?
