And the Chrysler 300C eats it alive for thousands less.

The car can't get redesigned soon enough.

Just curious....how does what your post says still stop the GXP from being a nice car?

For the money I too would go 300C, but the GXP is still a nice car.

"Nice" is still kind of a stretch for a GXP. Given the competition like the Maxima SE, Acura TL, Infiniti G35 sedan, Volvo S60/S60 R, etc.

A 5.3 V8 Impala is coming soon - should be a good powerplant but still driving the wrong wheels.

I'm sure a RWD platform for the Grand Prix/Monte Carlo/Impala is in the works. Prolly around 2008 though, these things take time.

GM's new Zeta platform will supposedly underpin the next Grand Prix, Impala, Monte Carlo (If there is one), and the Bonneville in addition to a new Buick full size RWD sedan IIRC sometime before the end of the decade.

I'm pretty skeptical about that.

The 5.3 V8 (all aluminum version of the truck engine) is currently in testing at the proving grounds. Unfortunately, it is still driving the front wheels through the 4T65E transaxle instead of a nice T-56, 12-bolt combo! The 5.3 FWD will debut in 2006. Yes, really. Not that it matters, it is still FWD!

My fear is Chrysler is going to eat up this "new" V8 RWD powered market with the 300C and GM is essentially trying to play catch up. Shoe-horning the 5.3 in the mid-size cars and driving the wrong wheels will never fully compete with the 300C and the new RWD GM platform is still eons away. GM is a day late and a dollar short even though GM has wonderful V8s and transmissions that would make fine competition to the 300C, there's no platform to stuff them in.

This quote is straight from GM High-tech Performance, in The Buzz section:

The title is: "New GM Rear-Drive Platform"

"At The New York Auto Show in April, there was a Buick concept car called the Velite. Interestingly, it was the first North American reveal of GM's new global Zeta rear-wheel-drive platform. It will spawn a pile of new rear-drivers in the U.S., not the least of which will be a new Chevy Impala. It can't come soon enough."

That was the article, it is saying the new Impala will be rear-drive

Exactly, DCX is getting the jump on everyone with their new LX cars, and more variants are coming.

Ford's next large sedan is FWD, and 200HP... the decade old Crown Vic/Grand Marquis are laughably antiquated now. GM is replacing their cars with V6 and V8 RWD models but they're years off.

DCX is going to own the market, which they should since they had the foresight and the ***** to do it first.

Kick the Maxima off that list and its okay....Yep, I have one of those Maxima's for a daily driver. Not sure its up to the task If the paint is an issue shared by Nissan and Infiniti, then the G35 needs to get kicked off as well.

I took a 300C for a ride the other week. Nice vehicle and it will be our next family 4 door. I am 6'5" and I make NO compromises to fit in the 300C and that is where GM is a non-player in this catagory. The GXP and the CTS-V are smaller. A V series of the DeVille may be interesting and sized right, but I doubt it will be able to compete price point wise with the 300C. I think Chrylser hit a home run!!
