Default My Ultimate Brake upgrade

Before you all chime in and claim this brand is the best, hear me out.

The ZR1 has the best brake system GM puts out. And its basically available to all Corvette owners.

I know the spindles are different and i will have to roughly make a 2" adapter to push the caliper out a bit. But imagine the potential. Its the ultimate sprung weight reduction with track possibilities. And we all know you can upgrade the hubs, so this is pretty much a bonus. For those who dont want to drop an extra eight grand the V2 rotors in slotted are available. You will need to buy one piece brembo rotors for now.

Parts you need are

2007-2008 X-track Hubs for the front
2007-2008 Rear hubs
Front Zr1 Calipers in Blue/Grey (cheap price) Red Yellow (MOST EXPENSIVE!!!)
Rear Zr1 Calipers in Blue/Grey (cheap price) Red Yellow (MOST EXPENSIVE!!!)
Front Rotors
Rear Rotors
Pads
Caliper Hardware
and wheels. I chose the 19x10 for the front and 20x12 for the rear. Will wrap them with Michelin Super Sport for the road and Sports Cup for the track...#05/30R19 up front and 335/25R20 in the rear..
You will also need Brake cooling kit for the front, i chose Quantum Brake Cooling Kits for their affordable price..

Given my passion for always upgrading i hope this upgrade will satisfy the urge in me.

Now get onto the classifieds and help me earn the remaining $8,750 i need to finish this project...Everything is Like New at less than new prices, EVEN AFTER SHIPPIN...

Holy cow... You're nuts. ZR1 brakes all the way. That would be so badass. I bet you can stop fast enough with this big hulk if a car that you're going to smash your spleen.

You can buy the Camaro ZL1 parts which I believe are the same offsets as V2's, which means will fit V1's.

They use Carbon ceramic rotors. The calipers don't need to be special to run carbon rotors and pads. The V2 calipers will accomplish this task. I contemplated at the time doing the swap myself, but couldn't justify the $1500+ per rotor price tag.

All the parts can be bought off amazon or rockauto.

Wonder if the new z-28 and the zl-1 share the same brake setups....

You just saved Naf a boat load of cash.....

I'm sure you could get someone like Essex to put together a more track-worthy AP Racing setup for less. I have not heard if the fancy carbon rotors are track-capable (what's the weight difference between a C6 ZR1 and a V1?) and knowing how you beat on brakes, a true racing caliper would pay dividends when it comes to consumables like brake pads....
Here is a 355mm rotor with 6-pot caliper behind an 18" Z06 wheel.

That's my take Naf. You know me, I have no problem pissin away money but why not just build a full race BBK from AP/Brembo, etc ?
At least look into the 2 piece carbon Z28 setup...

Gm is restricting all the go fast/slow parts from th z28 so that clones can't be built. Good luck getting any part from that car.

I don't believe the ZL1 uses carbon ceramic brakes, only the Z/28 does on the Camaro platform. Maybe it was offered as a factory upgrade/option? I couldn't find any carbon ceramic rotors for the ZL1.

You are correct. I must have had a massive brain fart earlier today. The Zl1 uses the iron 2 piece rotors identical to the V2. Sorry for the confusion. Either way. The parts for the zr1 can still be bought from rockauto and Amazon for a quarter of the dealership prices.
