Default Finally mounted the radar detector the way it was meant to be!

Basically got the real suction cup (instead of the two little piles that come with it) and hard wired it into a keyed voltage source. The mute warning button is just Velcro fastened to the A-pillar. So nothing permanent, or damaging. So in either eye's peripheral there are visual warnings as well as the regular audible warning. When street racing in "Mexico" the windows are usually down, or when I'm just horsing around by myself the radio is blaring, so it is all about the visual cues for me! Especially at night, it is just hard to ignore the red LED at eye level flashing at you! Even if you're looking in the rear view, you would notice the detector itself going off. Anyway, this was done basically as an added insurance that I see the alarm going off and don't give the 5-O the advantage of my terrible reaction time, or the fact I didn't notice my detector going off.

Short of the entire escort (permanently) mounted radar detector system (approx 750$) I think this is as good as it gets. I know it is worlds better than the dangling cigarette lighter cord. Plus! I have my 12v port free now! Then there is the fact it is always on with the car now, so no more of not plugging it in since I'm just running to the store, mentality.

Can't beat hard wired. Funny, I just bought new suction cups for my Valentine1. They're stiffer and allowed me to mount it higher up on the windshield. Still dragging my feet on installing the mute button in the dead pedal though.

There is so much background electronic emissions around here that you can't hardly tell the difference anymore. **** just beeps and screams all the time. I sold my last one.

Love it

I did the knock off blend mount off of ebay. super cheap compared to the blend and have never failed. looks great and can't see it from outside the car.

I hardwired mine to the power cords up in the overhead lights bin somewhere a long time ago. I don't remember which wire I used, but it's clean. All I know is having a big *** cord flopping around down to the lighter looks like doo doo.

Can those with blend mounts or blend mount copies post up install pics? I like how clean the mount is, but dislike how low it positions the detector

I loves me STi-R+. With Escort Live running on the Asteroid, I've got all kinds of cues:
- escort live screen alert (if it's in the foreground) or a notification alert (background)
- audio alert over the car stereo that lowers all the other volumes of anything going on
- audio alert from the STi-R+ speaker mounted right at the steering wheel column base
- LED blinking alert in my gauge cluster
- STi-R+ display panel alert
- STi-R+ control panel led blinking
- Escort Live bluetooth connector led blinking alert

LOL

Escort Live has saved my bacon because I mounted the antenna behind the bumper cover & it has rendered laser detection useless. Driving home one day I get an alert from Escort Live saying "Live Laser Alert, 0 minutes ago" (1 mile ahead). I get to near the pin, bam, DPS running laser on the tollway. It has paid for itself with that alone!

Here is the display panel & control panel:

The LED by the gauge cluster:

This is a diff stereo, but if you see the blue light down by my right knee, that's the bluetooth Escort Live wire. That can mute/send alerts w/o having to touch the screen:

Here is when I was running my phone as Escort Live & not yet the Asteroid:

Can't do that! I have a tint strip across the top of my wind shield so that double sided tape would be a no no

If you don't mind what all did that cost? Did you do the install?

Yeah, I did the install. It wasn't that difficult.

$825 STi-R+, new sealed in box from ebay (normally $1100).
$150 Escort SmartCord Live (Direct Wire, the bluetooth connection between STi-R+/Asteroid)
$575 Parrot Asteroid Smart

I use my cell phone bluetooth tethered to the Asteroid for internet connectivity. Works great. Or I could turn on the wireless of the Asteroid & use wireless hot spot tether, but I think that would increase battery usage. I've been meaning to film it in action.

The most difficult part was finding a place for the antenna. I went with behind the bumper cover, but it means I need to find a laser detector/jamming setup to install. Just haven't gotten around to it.
