Unhappy Finally ran her on the dyno after H/C/I/etc install…less than stellar results. HELP!

Hey guys,

Over the course of last winter, I took my stock 2004 V with 30,000 miles, and breathed a little more life into it:

Volant CAI
Nick Williams 102 Throttlebody
Fast 102 Manifold
Fast 36lb injectors
TEA Trickflow 220 Heads
Tick Performance Custom Grind Cam (231/234 .617"/.576" 114+3)
Kooks 1 3/4" headers and Hi-Flow Cats
Borla Cat back Exhaust
(Misc. stuff like LS7 lifters, LS2 Timing chain, etc.)

Due to my geographical location, I only had access to a (very reputable) LS tuner who used a wide-band to dial everything in. Car felt great, and still feels great. Definitely "zippier" for lack of a better term.

This past week, I was finally able to get her strapped onto a dyno to see the results of my labor., and needless to say, I was a tad disappointed (see chart attached). Martin at Tick Performance helped piece everything together for this build. He estimated the car would put down about 440-450 RWHP when all said and done.

Based on Martin/Tick's fantastic reputation and knowledge, should I assume the tune is to blame for the lower than expected numbers I'm seeing? Secondly, where should I start taking in order to dissect the problem, and correct it? Any advice is always greatly appreciated.

Here's a link to the run:

I'd trust Martin over a single dyno. Those damn things can be made to say anything. Martin is the man and knows his ****.

That graph looks super strange, the torque curve is absurd. I would strap it on another dyno, preferably a Dynojet for comparisons sake before I worried about the numbers.

Dyno numbers are just numbers, do you enjoy the mods and think they were worth it? Ive always cared more about "seat of the pants" and driveability rather than peak numbers.

Your tune is crap I dont known of a single reputable tuner who would not do a full dyno tune with the mods that you have. Id get a street tune in a bolt on only car.

Agreed! Looks like a lie detector test. I'd take it back or get a refund. Sorry to be so negative.

Something isnt right somewhere whether its the dyno or the tune or the mod install. That graph should be climbing great all the way to the rev limiter. That dropoff is not right.

What kind of dyno is it? That graph is very strange looking. First I would start on a different dyno. Are you still on stock clutch?

Definitely something wrong with the tune. I have a very similar setup as you and have much better results. Slight difference in cam (233/236 .618/.578 114+3) and I get 417hp, 391tq.

I'm more inclined to think the problem is with the dyno reading than with the tune. The pull sounds clean and smooth on the video. I would expect that if the output had actually jumped by 75ft-lb all of a sudden you would hear it and probably see the car surge, but there's no indication of that at all.

Edit: Karl, has it ever felt to you when you're driving like it suddenly picks up a bunch of power, and then drops off like a rock? 75ft-lb is a big jump over just 400rpm or so. There's no way you wouldn't feel that in the seat of the pants. If you're not feeling a surge of power at higher RPM, then there's something wrong with the dyno reading. Of course, you could still have a suboptimal tune, but I think that dyno curve doesn't match reality.

I'm assuming it's an automatic? Did they lockup the converter?

That would be a poor assumption, seeing as they only came from the factory with a T56. One would think if the car had gotten an automatic swap he would have mentioned that, as that's a pretty significant modification.

Its not the dyno. A dyno can read high or low but that graph is caused by the tune. And it's not the clutch a slipping clutch does a loopdey loop on a dyno graph.

Get it retuned

Too many variables, do u have the correct length pushrods, is the timing proper, is your airfilter causing the issue, is your exhaust too open, is you maf too small

The list will never end. But tackle one issue at a time and you will get 425 on a mustang dyno

Yeah, I didn't even think that comment was worth a response.

Thats it, autos suck a lot of power. If it were manual then u would make more power. Sorry you may want to get a diff torque converter. Yank make nice ones
