Default Stage II cams on DD

I found the SNS TorqueMAX Stage 2 cams were really popular, and have some good reviews. But with over 10 degrees overlap it seems like it may not be the best for daily use especially for creeping in gear @low rpm's while in traffic or stop and go scenarios. I also fear vacuum will suffer with the Tick SNS cams.

I also found Brian tooley racing makes a nice cam, but seems it's pretty small compared to other competitors stage II. Not sure if +4 overlap sounds lopey on idle..Is there anything in between these two cams in terms of specs?

Just really trying to find something that would be solid on a DD and has a slightly better chance at passing emissions. I don't think +10 or 11 degrees overlap would stand a chance passing. But i do want a decent rumble at idle. Maybe like 6-9 degrees overlap?!?

Specs:

BTR stg II:
227/234 .614"/.576" 113+2

Tick performance SNS Stg II:
230/235 | .60x"/.61x" 111+2

Just for the record, "Stage" is just a marketing gimmick. It means absolutely nothing, so don't compare them between brands. As for overlap, I agree 10º+ is quite a bit, but depending on who you have tune your car, they can get it pretty well-mannered. My cam has 5º overlap and I would say it's decently lopey and does well enough in traffic. You can always talk to Tick about getting a custom cam if none of the off-the-shelf ones meet your needs.

The BTR cam would be the better of the two you listed. However, I would just give them a call. Brian and Martin (Tick) are both great guys and can spec one of their grinds that would be most appropriate for what you are looking for.

Found these 2 cams:

Summit grind / Comp
230/234 .600 /.602 111
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/cc...make/chevrolet
They are approx 10 degrees overlap but state operating range of 1500 RPM?? seems lower than most cams, is that due to the lesser valve lift?

Comp grind
227/235 .614/.621 113
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/cc...make/chevrolet
These are only 5 degrees overlap but have a higher operating range starting at 1900 RPM.. i guess do to higher lift on both intake & exhaust???

I tried calling both vendors several hours ago. One put me on hold for a while, the other went right to voicemail Haven't gotten any emails back either.

So just seeing what you guys think at this rate. I'm sure ill eventually get a hold of someone.

Yeah for sure. There is a huge gap between one competitors stg II, to the others. Got a vid of your cam? What are you running?

My 232/236 114 was fine as a daily except for trying to crawl through parking lots at idle in gear. It would sometimes buck but it was manageable if you knew how to handle it.

I'd go with the BTR Cam. I have a 227/231 cam here and I love it. V's being stick you could get away with a little more donkey dick cam than an auto.

Crappy cell video, but you get the point:

I don't think he meant running multiple cams in the car....he meant the various "stage 2" options, which I informed him is a stupid marketing gimmick that drives me crazy. But you know all this

I'm running LS3 top end with a BTR 225/238 .612" .585" 113 cam. Tune has it damn near stock drivability.

The tune matters bigtime. Work and tune was done by Powerhaus in NJ if thats any help
