Default Starter Guidance

I am installing my Kooks and I was going to wrap the starter but the wire and the connection area for the small wire crumbled in my fingers. Any ideas? Should I just buy an aftermarket starter while I have it tore down? If so any advice?

Get a starter for a truck and a new pigtail to fix the wire. Wrap it up and call it good.

A Silverado 6.0L starter is cheap. I got mine from Rock Auto, $50 TYC brand.

You will need to change the terminal to avring terminal connection.

Don't forget to wrap up and relocate the alternator wire with DEI heat sleeve.

May as well do the crank sensor while you are in there if LS2.

You can have the starter repaired and a proper terminal installed very cheap.

The 5.3 truck starter was the same size as the stock LS2 V1 starter that was on my car when I got it but the 5.3 starter has the ring terminal on it. It installs easily and has worked fine for me.

The 6.0 starter is bigger than the 5.3 or LS2 starter (about 3/8" longer) and I've had a hard time installing those. Yes, that little bit of length made all the difference and I'll never use another one cause I don't need it.

did you have to drop the header to replace it or did it fit?

This is the one I used. Haven't had a single issue with it since install.

I used it with headers and with stock manifold.

I never noticed a difference in size.

I also wasn't thinking to look for one either, I'll keep note if that if I go to a larger headder as something to watch out for.

I have stock manifolds, cats and exhaust. The stock ls2 starter came out easy, the 5.3 starter went in easy and on the last 6.0 starter i did on my Ls6 car I had to loosen the motor mount, jack the motor up and take the cat off.

Went with an Advance Auto starter for a 05 Silverado with the LS engine. It's a little shorter than the stack CTSV model but works just fine. No issues with the install as it slid right in around the UMI mounts and the Kooks headers. I did buy a Jegs starter heat wrap to help with the header temps.
