New Driver Seat Cover for the V...Finally
I've gotten into V's just as they were getting out of new showrooms, so I've never seen a mint V1 when it was brand new at the dealer.
I've seen them better than mine, but the previous owner wasn't very kind to the driver seat, doesn't look he did any upkeep or used the right product to remedy typical aging signs.
Wanted to share this for your viewing pleasure, this is as close as I will ever get to witnessing first hand and enjoying a pristine non-reupholstered stock driver seat.
I never got around to doing this, but Sunday was the day I finally got down to business.
I opened the door to go for a joy ride and I was like that's it, slammed the door headed down to my storage and grabbed the new leather.
I'm very fortunate and grateful I got the parts long time ago, it was not easy or cheap, nowadays basically impossible to find.
I also managed to get my hands on a new ebony passenger seat back cover around the same time frame, but the V ebony passenger cushion cover was no where to be found, I guess I will restore the current one and that'll do.
The passenger seat is no where near as bad as the driver one, whenever I tackle the passenger seat, I'll come up with a good plan for the cushion cover.
Without further ado
The situation...
I'm sure in the hands of a gifted restorer this driver cover can be saved, has no rips or tears, but I don't have the time nor tools to do that kind of work.
Perhaps one day I will tackle a leather restoration project and keep it as a spare, we'll see what the future brings.
My God just look at the difference!
Decided I don't want to rely on the silly OEM clips.
Just drilled a couple of small holes into the frame, then ran a 16" cable tie to each clip, it will never loosen on it's own that's for sure.
Hooked the clips at the bottom and added a cable tie through.
My original seat cover's hooks unhooked themselves somehow, don't know if that happened under my watch or with the previous owner, so after hooking them, I sneaked a tie through to make sure it doesn't happen again.
Aaand voila!
And he drove happily ever after
The end.
