I believe it depends on which flexplate you have to determine if you need the spacer.

always need the spacer, but it might be in front of the flexplate or behind it depending on flexplate shape. Unless you have one of rare 6.0L motors that had the extended crank and then no spacer is needed, believe it was the early model year ones with iron heads as well...?? anyone else recall?

Thinking about changing plans now. How hard is it to carb a ly6 and remove vvt. I read on here somewhere about changing cam sprocket and front cover. Anybody know anything about this?

you need a gen IV timing cover that has the timing sensor in it,(plus the 6" long extension wiring harness) I got mine from a '08 5.3 in a junkyard, I also scored the 4X top single bolt cam gear from that motor to run my LY6 in stock cam form without the VVT. dont bother with a whole new timing set, unless you really want to spend money.

Did you flycut your pistons? How much lift are you running?

I did not need to flycut.
lift is irrelevent. its the duration, LSA and ICL that effect P to V clearence the most.
My cam has 277/285 adv. duration, 227/235 @ .050", 114 +4LSA (+4 means ground with 4 degrees advance )
my heads are not cut either, and I measured the PtoV at .120" intake, and .280 exhaust. I didnt write down where it occured, but it was within 10* of TDC.
More duration, or a tighter LSA will reduce PtoV, as will advancing the cam

Thanks for your help. I'm not real sure what cam to pick or just call one of the companys and tell them what I got and what I want to do. I'm prob a couple months away from buying a motor anyways unless a good deal presents itself.
