Default Map sensor

I'm in the process of building a 6.0 lq4 I see on the msd 6010 there is a connector for a map sensor does this have to be used??? some of the edelbrock intakes seem to have a hole for this but the gmpp one's do not.

Well I'm blind just found a post on this lol. Anyways my only ? now is does the map sensor have to be installed directly into the intake or could you run a sensor off the carb off one of the vacuum ports

I would think you'd get a better reading at the body of the intake. Like right after the flange. You'd have to drill and tap something depending on the intake I would guess.

Default map sensor

Depends how accurate you need it. Try to keep it as close as possible to the intake/carb. You can use the PCV fitting under the rear fuel bowl or the pipe fitting on the right rear intake runner. The best place is the carb. This gives you a smoother vacuum reading as all 8 cyl are pulling. The fitting on the one intake runner will tend to pulse more as it is mostly getting a signal from one cyl and a trace of signal from the other 7. Also use a 3/8" hose to keep a strong signal.

Just reading along and learning about the maps... when you say to use the carb port, how does that hook up to the wires? Is there some aftermarket part that converts it to electrical? Post a picture please. Thanks.

Junk yard. I got one off a 3.8L chevy. As long as they have the right connector it will work. so pretty much anything in the GM section at that yard.

Of course, shouldn't be a problem as long as you use the manifold vacuum port and not timed vacuum port (that should be capped since there is no distributor vacuum advance). I was looking at the orifice on the MAP sensor and it's so small I'm just going to run the hose there, no need to use the big tapped port on the Edelbrock carb intake, saving that for brake boost. Only concern is that the barb on the MAP and carb are slightly different sizes, so you will need 2 sizes of hose with a male/male adapter in the middle.

My victor jr intake arrived today there is actually a port tapped on the side of the carb mounting surface and comes with the mounting plate for the map and then you run a nippled fitting in the threaded port with a piece of 1/4" hose between the two now if my msd 6010 would finally get here
