I weighed my 65 Lark today. I was stunned to see it weighs 3370. I really expected to hear more like 3750 because that is what my 64 Special weighed. I also expect that the aluminum headed LQ9 will weigh less than the 300" V-8 that is in there now. So, it looks like I will be going faster than expected.
Based on what I have read, I am thinking my LQ9 will make about 450 HP at the crank. So, with this new weight discovery I am thinking I should have no problems meeting my project performance goal of 110 MPH + in the quarter.

That would be my guess too. But, I don't want to be too optimistic. The motor will be a stock longblock LQ9 with a Comp 222/224 .566/568, Performer RPM, 750 holley and some mid length BRP headers. Based on dyno tests I have seen in the rags, I am guessing 450 crank hp.

Well, it turns out that the LS1 and TH200R4 set up is actually heavier than the old Buick 300 and ST300 combo. The car now weighs 3510 as opposed to the old weight of 3370.
It is important to note that this new motor and trans set up required an electric fuels system, additional fuel line and an electric cooling fan and controller.
Be all this as it may, it is also important to note that you had to throw sand under the tires to enable the old set up to spin the tires. The new set up will get sideways from a 40 MPH roll. Yeah, it is a fair trade.

Wow, I cant believe that the new set up is heavier than the old. Never saw that coming. P.S. Im still waiting to see the outcome of the heater hose loop VS block off. Oh, and good luck with the valve train noise problem. Good luck, Eric L

My car actually came from the factory with a ST300 transmission which was a two speed transmission. But, unlike a powerglide, it had a variable pitch torque converter that had a high stall and a low stall speed activated by a throttle switch. The TH200R4 is soooo much better. I love having overdrive.

The alternator off of the Vette accessories is crazy heavy. The Taurus cooling fan weighs a bit too. The transmission weighs 50 pounds more, but I am thinking that a carbureted LQ engine does weigh more than the little 300 Buick which is nothing more than the original Buick Fireball V-6 with 2 more cylinders.
