Default OH CRAP, I think a washer went into intake??

Changing out carb yesterday and was all said and done, went to fire her up and CLACK CLACK CLACK. A god awful sound. Im assuming a washer fell down intake. Before I go and pull intake and heads I guess I will pull plugs and see if there is anything i can see. I will manually turn engine until each cyl is TDC. Unless I can get my hands on one of those internal cameras.
Any other suggestion???

Maybe a magnet? I'd probably just pull the intake to look, not too big a deal. Hopefully it landed next to a valve thats closed.

Pretty easy to pull the intake and won't even cost you a gasket. Should let you look right at the intake valves.

Yank the intake, then heads, just keep going till you find the issue, sorry to hear man.

Like the others said, hopefully the intake valve was closed and it stopped there. If so, you may be able to fish it out with a magnet through the intake. Good Luck!

Well here you have it my friends. Found washer in D/S head. I used a boreascope and saw it smashed to **** in one of the piston areas. Heres some pics. The cylinder wall is perfect and the valve and piston look ok except for the edge of piston is smushed a bit but its not hitting wall but real close. Also the alum AFR head is pittied but not where the gaslet sits. Think I should ge tnew gaskets and bolt back up?? The pieces on the bottom of piston is the smashed washer

to me the piston is just and the head will need to be repaired....... the piston damage on the bottom picture is the big reason. Look at the area at the bottom of that picture the ring land below that has to be messed up the ring will stick and cause problems. plus all the sharp edges in the camber will cause problems with knock. get a piston and get the head fixed.

Definately need a new piston, and the head should be cleaned up.

If you run it as is, the rings will get excessive blowby, the piston will scuff up the cylinder wall, and all those dings in the head will cause detonation, eventually the head will get pitted and it will burn into the gasket sealing area.

As the other guys said, it definitely need to be repaired.

Replace the piston, and send the head off to get cleaned up at a machine shop.
