New and Courious
Well guys this seems to be a great Forum! I have a 1965 buick skylark. I had a 455 in there for the past 7 years. It was not a bad setup but was very unhappy with drivability and power it made for its displacement.
So here I am. I bought a LQ4 that I plan on putting in the car. I plan on using the stock 317 heads for now. I will upgrade to the PRC stage 3 heads maybe next year. I am going with the gmpp single plane intake, holley 750 double pumper and a TSP custom grind cam somewhere in the neighborhod of 232/238 with about 110 and about .600 lift. I.am running a turbo 350 with a coan 3500 stall and a 3.55 gear.
Here starts my questions
1 What frame mounts do I need. I know I need an adapter plate.
2 Is the 317 head going to support this cam or should I get the TSP heads now. I know this will also help my compression.
3 Hood clearance. Will the intake carb setup have any problems with closing a stock hood on a A-body car.
4 What header. I have heard so many different stories about what fits and what does't my head is spinning
5 can I make 500hp at the crank with the 317 heads. This is my goal and I dont want to fall short.
Thanks for all of you help!

i think speedtigger is also doing a 65 skylark and has a build thread in the conversion section. should be able to find most of your answers there. for your hp goals, most guys measure by rwhp, and i'm guessing your setup is good for >400rwhp, just going off of other things i've read.
good luck.
good luck.

I'm going to be Running a Milodon Pan, Dougs Headers, Dougs SK100 Adapter Brackets and running the Truck Accessory Drive with a Kwik Performance A/C Bracket on my 5.3L in my 71. Check out Speetigers Build it's right up your alley.

Well I ordered some CNC ported heads for Texas Speed. I looked at the l92 heads but we decided might not be the best choice.
If you look at HP and torque numbers, The average power across the board is much higher with a 243 head. The l92 is a great piece but the intake runners are much much to big for a 366ci engine. Trevor at Texas speed was saying they flow great at .600 lift, but down low are a gutless pig. I can believe this due to there is absolutly no velocity. This would be a great head for a 400inch motor are bigger, but I think the ported 243 heads are much more all around head.

The exhaust flow numbers are uncomparable. The l92 are almost 30 cfm loweer at .550 lift!

Got a whole bunch of goodies coming.
Mast oil pan
Comp cam 232/238 on 110 .595/.605 lift at .050"
PRC fully ported 243 heads with dual spring setup to .650 lift
Trunion upgrade kit for rockers
Hardened chrome moly pushrods
LS7 lifters
LS2 timing chain
TSP ported and polished oil pump
Eldebrock single plane intake. Victor Jr.
Holley street HP 4150 750cfm double pumper
I am thinking about the Dougs headers. I am waiting for a report from speedtigger in his 65 skylark.
With these heads I am hoping for about 10.7:1 compression. Far better than a l92 head with only 9.4:1 compression. Going on the dyno later this winter, We are guessing around 530-550 at the crank.

Thanks, I tell you what, Trevor at Texas Speed was been awsome. He has worked with me the last couple of weeks. They really know thier stuff, and everyone I talked to there has been more than friendly.
