do you have voltage to the box while cranking? if you tapped into the wrong wire on the fuse panel it can go dead while cranking. Also try to step on the throttle a little bit to get more airflow past it. Did you run heavy gauge wire to the starter and it's cranking the motor fast?

i have full voltage while cranking as stated above.turns over very quick.i was a biomed tech in the army so im fairly knowledgeable in wiring and diagnostics. wish i had an o scope to see the signals at the sensors.

Check this, it was my problem too. I swapped into a '72 car with points and there are two feed wires. One has a resistor in line to cut current to the points (run) and the other is full voltage (start).

Some people report no spark if the cranking RPM is too low, but I guess that is not an issue for you.

Please let us know if/when you get it figured out!

I had a no fire on my frst start-up. I replaced the crank sensor and it started up. I guess mine went bad from sitting since my motor came from a running truck.

to clear it up i have 12v while cranking at the box.car was running fuel injected a week ago sensor should be fine. no oscilloscope to prove this but was running none the less. cranks over great. i first went carb when i built the car 4 years ago then went f/i. car was faster with carb so decided to go back plus dont want to keep paying for a new tune with each mod. i had the edelbrock unit on first build with no problems.im even reusing the same leads as then new wire of course.leaning to a bad box,not the first time i got junk from msd.

sometimes when you weld on the chassis or frame with the boxes plugged in, you can ruin the box. have seem it donr many times. Have you welded on the car lately?

no welding has been done.have a ground to clean metal on the frame rail.have a ground from frame rail to engine .battery in the hatch.batt grounded to frame rail in the hatch area.have .02 ohms at the box and sensors.either cam sensor, crank or box is bad.

hate to hijack your thread but does the ign box watch cam or crank to trun the ignition? if both why and if only one of them why do we use both? This might help you choose the right sensor to try.

Thanks guys

at work i use Pi data systems and i know of you use 2 different signals to do any one thinng it gets confused. with the slop in the factory timming chains under acell and decell tey can't be even close.

not sure how those factory sensors work but all the data stuff i use has a 5V reference and they should be used as a switch to turn on and off as the reluctor ring or hall effect passes by the sensor. you may be able to back probe those wires and while you turn it over you should be able to see it turn on and off. im one for diagnosing a problem before firing parts at it till it fixes it.

well, dug this up. see if this does anything for you. it looks like a 2 volt sensor but i think as long as your seeing something you should be ok.

this too. from all this you should be able to determine if its box, cam or crank.

AFAIK, the cranks sensor gives the MSD box all its crank position data, and the cam sensor just lets the MSD know if its on compression, or overlap, nothing more.
ps my 6012 will start my engine even if it has no cam sensor hooked up. it will guess at the correct cycle - sometimes it guesses wrong.

We had issues with bad grounds on some cars, if you get a wild hair, run a ground from the box all the way to the battery. I bet it would probably fix the issue if you did not destroy the box already, a frame ground has killed a few boxes that i personally know of. Now, with my battery front mounted, i have grounded to the engine and got away with it as there was also a ground from the engine to the battery.
