I am finally getting some work done on the vega wagon and am getting near time to figure the engine out. I was going to run a 4.8 with an ls1 intake but I have bought myself an aluminum 5.3 and don't want to mess with the injection right now. It is an 08 model with flat top pistons and 799 heads. I will be deleting all the DOD stuff and building headers to fit the car.
My plan right now is to mill the heads .030" and run a tsp torquer v2 with 110 LSA cam with a 3600 stall. I am thinking of running a victor jr. intake but don't have a clue on the carb? The car will weigh around 2700# and run a 200-4r with 3.73 rear gear.
Is this combo going to work or do I need to change some things up to make it work? I am new to these engines and certainly don't know anything about a carb on one. My goal is to have the car running the 11's and then maybe put a little shot of nitrous on it later on.
Thank you all for your help and hopefully this thing will come together soon.

We did a stock, and i mean stock GEN III 5.3 long block, no cam, in a 89 mustang, carbed and headers, went 7.9 all motor in the 1/8th, this was a full interior car with a roll cage, it was on a trans brake, but you can imagine your lighter car with a higher compression motor and a cam, it should be in the 11s with no issue as long as everything is tuned and dialed in.

There is nothing special about carbing an LS motor. Whatever you did with a first gen will work.
I would think a 750 with mechanical secondaries. Pretty much everyone with a 5.7L and larger run at least a 750. With your mods that should work for you too.
Classic double pumpers on an LS open pleunum intake tend to have a bog off idle. Not a big deal, just takes some tweaking to get rid of it. However a lot of members say Holley HP carbs work perfectly right out of the box. New ones seem to be a bit cheaper too.

Thank you everyone for the help. Since it seems to be the consensus it will run in the 11's, I will definitely go this route. I will probly go with the Holley HP 750 carb if that sounds like a choice. That is what I was thinking before, I just didn't know if it would work with this combo. Hopefully this will all come together pretty soon. I guess I should finish the car first though.
Thanks again

Nice find on an aluminum 5.3!!!! Where did you come across that? If you don't mind me asking.
Carbed LSx is a breeze. Just get an MSD box to run to your ignition system (24x or 58x), slap a carb on it, and go!
It should do 11s all day day fairly easy with that kind of power to weight.

I got lucky. A friend of mines nephew rebuilds wrecks (mostly GM trucks) and had this laying around. It has 6x,xxx miles on it.
