Default Trying to get 500hp out of my LQ4.....

Decided to go LS in my 84 Cutlass. I got a 6.0 from an 02 Denali. Upon reading up on these I see that they were rated at 320 hp and the 6.0's from the Escalades were rated at 345hp. With a few upgrades my goal is to hit 500hp on the engine dyno......How can I accomplish this??
This is a street/show car that see the track every once in a while for fun.

I plan on keeping the bottom end stock. I have so far:
MSD box
Edlebrock Performer intake
Holley HP 750 carb
317 heads milled .30
Holley blue electric fuel pump

The cam I've been considering is the Comp Cam 54-448-11 with lift .605"/.609".

2800 stall in 200r4 trans.
3:73 rear end
29' tall rim/tire

Any input/info is appreciated.

I still need springs, lifters, rockers, push rods, timing set, oil pump

You will need a good compression bump, victor intake, and maybe a bigger carb. Totally obtainable with the right setup

Custom grind cam for EPS, Geoff can set you up. Port those heads and you are solid.

You need about another 1k rpm on the stall too IMO. Pretty easy to get to 500 flywheel horsepower. Ported stock heads and a descent cam is all you need with the carb setup .

I think that cam is too large for your torque converter. In your situation, I would either reduce the cam size to match your torque converter and intake manifold, or go to a larger torque converter (maybe 4000), victor jr. intake and mill the heads to get the compression up.

The combination of too much cam, low compression and smallish torque converter will be sluggish in the low RPM ranges.

If you want to make 500 on a stock bottom end, you will need much more camshaft, a really nice set of ported heads, and the victor jr. intake manifold at LEAST.
Also like others said, minimum 3500 stall speed converter.

Think of how aggressive you want this engine to be before you commit to stock bottom end.. A stroker motor with a mild cam will be much easier to do then a cam only engine with a real aggressive cam.

I don't know if you noticed, but he specified "on the engine dyno".

Lol.....yea to the flywheel. Sold my SBC 383 to give a shot at this. I've read all the comments and I need to do a lil more research.

Ditched 383s for my first LS swap and never looked back.
