So i just installed my ly6 into my ranger it has msd 6012, ac delco plugs .055 gap, victor jr intake, 850 holly hp carb, custom 1 3/4 headers, comp cam, vvt delete with ls2 ft cover 3 bolt conversion, comp trunion upgrade. So the problem is the #2 cylinder is backfiring poping thru carb and exhaust if I disconect spark plug wire stops poping, I have switched plugs, wires, grounded coil, grounded motor, switched coils, swaped wires on cam sensor, checked voltage at sensor 5v,I am stumped as what it could be any one have a idea.

New or used heads? Maybe a bent valve?

Any chance the harness wires got switched? I assume a temp gun on the exhaust is showing all the other cylinders running the same temp?

I'm not sure how one would check the firing order on one of these.

Dang you beat me to it

Just because its 22ft lbs period doesn't mean you can't screw it up. If the lifter was up on the lobe I bet it's not tq'ed right. Lifter was collapsed. Due to it being up lobe and vs spring pushing plunger down in lifter and when it comes down the lobe there's no load on it and isn't actually opening the valve on the next time around

So we pulled it apart push rods are straight, rockers are tourqed correctly, replaced cam sensor, replaced spark plugs, ohm checked the wiring harness still no luck. 150 psi compression, no leak dwn.

I would double check pushrod length and lifter preload on that cylinder. Could it also be possible that you have a couple of bad lifters? I hate problems like this. Eric L
