finally found time to finish the way pipe, but after that i noticed the tranny was whining, like its starving for fluid. so i dropped the pan, looks clean, changed the filter, new fluid still didnt go away. im going to double check the converter when it cools back down but im almost certain its on all the way. when i did the swap i never took it off! maybe shes just due and its purely coincidence, but wasnt making noise last fall when i packed her away for winter. any ideas?

took a washer out, and it got quieter waiting for it to cool down to drop one more. ive heard of the pumps whining when the converter is too far off the pump but never too close. hopefully with one more removed the noise goes away.

took all the shims out, so now converter is almost a 1/4'' off the pump. still whines faintly when hot. ive searched this issue and found nothing. funny thing about it is talking to a buddy of mine his car (similair set up) makes the same noise he thought his tranny was going. im gonna guess its got something to do with that spacer, never had this issue before

pics of the y pipe. dumpin the 5.14's got a possible trade for a set of 3.42's with carrier as long as spline and everything else will work. if not im gonna drop down to 4.11's. wouldnt mind running it down the track first to see what time it would turn with the 5.14's tho

ground clearance is awesome, best ground clearance ive ever had. but to avoid having the shifter cable being burned,(again) it had to be looped back and forth and dosent feel all to great any more. thought that header wrap would work a little better than it does.

So you ran the exhaust pipes between the trans and floor? Nice. I'm about to start a LS1 install in our C Prepared Firebird, but was wondering about the exhaust. We're currently dumping out the side behind the front wheel (yes, it's loud, but you can't get too much noise out of a 305).

Do you have a link? I'm about to start a LS1 in a 3rd Gen install, but haven't paid much attention to motor mount options for a couple of years (it's taken a LONG time to get the engine built).

yep, ran the y pipe right over top of the crossmember worked out great! best ground clearance ive ever seen on these cars. header wrapped everything to try and help floor pan temps and tranny temps. plates like these all you need. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/trd-4572

Yeah, after I posted, I started looking. I think I have a home-brew version of those plates I got from a friend who went a different direction. I guess I'll have to wait until I'm ready to slide the engine into the car to see if I need something else.

Is the y-pipe you have a Hawk's unit, or something you created? I have the Spohn trans crossmember, so I hope something like that might work if I can get it configured. Thanks.

no i made that y pipe myself, wasnt too bad, too me about a day and a half, if i were a better welder could have gone a little quicker. probly have 250 invested in it, 2.5 od fit pretty easy. might be able to do 3''if youd like i can pm you a parts list with a detailed description of how i got going to help get ya going in the right direction. the damn band clamps are what killed me, 10-12 bucks a pop

Yes, please. Not sure I'll use it, as I'm nowhere near that point yet, but it'll be great to have if for nothing more than reference. I'll probably end up moving the floor of the rear seat buckets up so I can fit some decent-sized mufflers back there. I have considered using oval pipe, but that can get expensive, too.

Tell me about it. We have way too many band clamps under our 95 Z28 so I can quickly throw the converter under it so the car will pass emissions. I probably have way too many under there, but if it makes the job easier, it's worth it.
