Default Cam opinions. Lq9 build

Motor will be going in my 64' 442 at around 3400 lbs, what's I've got so far is a lq9 with arp rod bolts, ported and milled 317s (.010 milled) with prc .675 dual springs, victor jr that will be port matched with a edelbrock 750 vac secondary. Trans is a th-400 with either a stock stall or a 2500.
Car is a daily driver and needs to be comfortable to do so. Any cam recommendations? I was actually looking at a torquer v2.
Ideas?

Call a cam grinder and have one custom ground to suit your needs. Use you own common sense to draw the perimeters of what will work for what you are using the car for. Make sure the cam man know EXACTLY what you expect the cam to do.
Just looking at the setup you have, I would not go larger than the mid 220s at .050 on intake and if the heads have been flowed, I would put the lift at just before the point the heads start to lay over to take advantage of the max head flow. If you have vacuum needs, make sure they are known also. Good luck!

I'm getting ready to start for the first time my lq9 build with new stock 243's, dual plane, and qf SS830 mech sec carb. I decided on the ASA cam and blue ls6 springs. 240sx hatch with an m6.

I was looking at a bunch of aftermarket cams but after reading a carcraft article on an lq4 with the hotcam and stock 317's I figured the ASA would suit my needs just fine while retaining basically OEM valvetrain etc.

Had a cam spec'd to me of 220-224 604 604 on 110 +4 how does that sound with a vic jr in a street car with stock th400 stall? Should I go with a performer rpm?

Call Martin At Tick Perf....he went above and beyond with helping me select a custom cam and also adjusting my cam specs to a converter i already had. i found that most people over cam their motors with off the shelf cams and this is where a custom grind will certainly make the difference.

i ended up only spending $75 more for a custom cam over a OTS cam...money well spent IMO

not an expert but with the stock conveter it seems reasonable..a bump in duration and converter stall would really wake the car up though..

Well I went to a performer rpm, but I'm still on the fence about cams,
I have a 224/244 .535-.538 112 cam laying around or I could buy that
220/224 .604-.604 110+4 eps lobe cam
What do you guys think on a stock stall?

Wouldnt even waste the time and effort to put a cam in there with a stock stall imo...Dailey driver or not it will be a turd in off throttle response and redlight to redlight.

The 220/224 on a 110 would still work. Not fantastic but will not be as horrible as a large grind.

Neither of those cams.

Here is what I would recommend:

222/226 .602"/.605' 111+3

This will bring out a ton of under the curve power and give you a very nice driver while still working with a stock stall.

That said, I would HIGHLY recommend at the very least a 2800-3200rpm stall converter. Your engine makes nearly 100rwhp more at 3200rpm versus 2000rpm where the stock stall will most likely flash to. That's a huge difference in acceleration...
