Can't say I got much of that ...lol
would burn all 4 on the street, but stopped that as I kept breaking stuff...hubs,drive shafts,1 T-case ![Sad](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_sad.gif)
anywho.... build for TQ and HP will follow. I think the GM LSA cam may be a good choice for a 4x4.
Biggest drawback is a big cam, ported heads, etc, etc for power, will hurt you at low speeds....then you need gears and stall to get the RPMs up..one trade-of for another.
Now you said mud race truck....what type ? Bog....Drags ?

it is not a mud truck by any means lol .. it is a 2wd open desert race truck 60-70 mile laps my speeds generally are from 40-110 mph through sand, dirt, rocks .. I need all the hp I can get !! some of these guys are pushing 600-650 hp so that's why im stepping my game up and hoping to be 550-600 hp range

Very cool! That would be a freaken blast to do. Im going to stand where I am on the converter in that I wouldn't go bigger than the 2800. If you seldom get below 40mph and you are on loose footing, I don't see it doing much for you, other than creating heat in the trans.
I also think you could get away with more camshaft than a street or drag car because the chance of bogging out with traction because of the lack of low end torque seem pretty unlikely.
Get with Martin and discuss your unique needs and Im sure he will be able to hook you up. Just remember the factory rod bolts wont like a lot of extended high RPM abuse.

Considering your application and this RPM, I still think a cam in the mid 220s @ .50 is the correct choice. It will deliver the goods in that RPM range and still be able to deliver torque if you get bogged down in odd situations.
Also get the best valve springs you can afford. They will take a beating doing what you are doing. The cam manufacturer will be able to tell you if a good nitrided beehive spring or a double spring is right for your application.
