Hey dogs, do you know what your ptv clearance is? And is there much meat left in the pistons after flycutting that much? I'm building a similar set up, L98 rotating assy and heads, but with a cast iron block. Cam I've been specced to suit my needs is 235/250 .624"/.595" 108 lsa so I'm definitely going to need to flycut. Car looks great by the way!

crown is 300+thou thick, 60/70 cuts are nothing. we're running 50 clearance from memory. another trick if you need it is to sink the valveseats a bit deeper

Nice work, great results! I am from vic also and building a VL streeter with similar combo, will be ready to hit the track sometime in 2015.

Roughly what RPM were you running through the traps to hit 130+ mph?

cool. 3.45 diff so 5800-6000, short shifting. tempted to go 3.7's or 3.9's, but not sure esp if i spray it down the track.

Fair enough, I guess it is a pretty tall ratio. I had a car a few years back with a 4500 dominator and 3.9 gears which trapped only @ 114-115mph at roughly 6200-6300 from memory with a 275/50 radial, which I think is pretty close to roughly being 26" diameter tyre.

yeah this was specced by jason at dominator to be 4500, but flashes a bit higher, 4700. engine is torquey as hell pushing a 1.47 60ft 3.45 on a 27.5" tyre, but it must work as the mph down the track is spot on. not a hell a lot of commodore 60ft less than that without mega hp and using a transbrake.

Yeah decent 60ft for sure, guess the weight reduction helps a fair bit too, go the foot brake launches!

Any chance you could post a pic of your drive belt set up? I'm gonna be running an electric water pump also, so I only need to drive the alternator, looking at options. Cheers mate

made some progress on this.

10.08@133.6 with 1.48 60ft (has done 134.4 and 1.45). although just chewed the pinion gear out (then lockin), taking out my rear uni and centre bearing in the tailshaft.

stall is flaring to 5200 now and makes hp to 7200. sooo close to 9.9x. so happy for essentially a cam only 6.0

Wow glad to see it making that kind of power. I am doing the same cam in a lq4 6.o with ported 243 or 799 heads. I talked to you in the thread about the cam I started this summer.Did you ever dyno the engine only or just in the car? Would love to do an engine dyno on mine if I get the chance before it goes in.

thanks. was up against it with big head wind though.

still not really leaning on engine, could go to 7500 rev limit pill and change at 7300. also could jet the primary down one or two sizes and lean it out a bit.

uses a powerbond 25% UDP

it was originally degree'd to tdc on piston #1 when we did the engine. there is a little tab on the GM front cover and the powerbond have the degree's etched into them. then i dialled in the dizzy and got it to fire.

however, no oil pressure on initial start-up so we had to pull the timing cover off. the balancer didn't go back on the same spot, so we pulled the spark plug on #1 and found TDC, then made a mark on the balancer. since then i've had it on the dyno a few times and know the sweet spot for the timing.

Pin the balancer to the crank, that way it always goes back in the same spot. I did this to mine because my clutch adjustment needs to be done at certain degrees to line up with the hole in the bellhousing
