The shift points should be dictated by the cams HP curve. You only need to rev past peak HP maybe 300rpms or so to get you back in the meat of the torque band on upshifts. Going with a looser converter will help with "flash" to keep you in the max power area of the cam. At the same time you need to be careful to not have so much power straight off the line so you don't blow the tires off on an track (street, LOL) that isn't prepared . Can you get some time on a chassis dyno to find out where you need to shift? EDIT....Dumb question ! cant chassis dyno till it is actually running again. Do you have a recommended RPM range on the cam on a 6.0?

Looks like it'll be a good cam. It will be soft below 3500, but it will scream up to 72-7300 I'm sure!

It's almost identical to mine. Good cam for a max stock cube 6.0. bought mine for a 6.0 build but now you see that didn't happen for me, which I would have went bigger. Good cam none the less.

looks like you have a LY6 6.0 engine. factory valve reliefs. it came with ls3 heads on it from the factory. i have a LY6 in my garage that needs new rings and bearings. probably going to punch it .030 and toss a forged slug in. just to make sure, your engine has the cam position sensor on the front of the timing chain cover right? it's a gen IV engine.your engine also used to have VVT if i'm right. who sold it to you as a LQ4? it's possible someone threw these pistons into a lq4/lq9 in a rebuild.

here is a factory LY6 piston and a factory LQ4 piston.

oh, also if it is a LY6 it's guaranteed to have better rods than most early model lq4 and lq9 engines. i'd check PTV before flycutting.

Wish it was a LY6, but I pulled this engine from a buddy of mines wrecked 05 truck..one owner brand new 40k miles was on it...it was in fact a LQ4...never had any mechanical work done to his truck..He totaled it out and I yanked engine for a little of NOTHING!!! I've had this engine running in my car for about a year and 3 months with 243s, custom cam, etc...RAN PERFECT, but wanted to go LS3 route...

05 and newer 6.0's all have the better rods , and those look to be the same pistons as ly6 as well. Weird as my 05 lq4 has no valve releifs.

You could have a late 04 build or whatever. There are some older 6.0 that have a cross on the pistons(touched by the hand of god?) and others did not.

Since I'm fly cutting pistons anyway, think i should mill my heads .020 more to get a total of .040?? figuring i might as well attempt to get as much compression as i can. Will i run into intake alignment issues doing this??

yes! I cut mine .050", which together with a .040" thick head gasket and my stock dished LY6 pistons, acheived right at 11:1 compression. No intake alignment issues, and even if there was, you could simply run a round file through the intake bolt holes to oval them.
It ran good on 91 pump gas, and I splashed a gallon or 2 of better gas in for track days just for ***** and giggles

i would measure before milling heads. i had to mill .090 to get .070 intake clearance. had i milled the heads before knowing i had PTV issies, i would have been cutting .130 and buying more tools to cut my exhaust down .040 because i was right at .099 exh clearance.

cutting that much isnt that big of a deal, but the huge valves on those ls3 heads are right over the rings from pictures that i have seen.

UPDATE:

Hey guys, I have the car up and running with great success!!! I cranked it last night and today adjusted some timing on it and man DAMN this thing runs GOOD...Why I didn't start off with this setup, idk but man this is much more fun than my last setup...Man the way it feels after 3500 rpms is nuts...Question: If I were to have PTV issues, when would it occur? I've gotten this thing to 7k rpms a few times today and man that **** felt good.

If it didn't have a problem when you started it you won't. I had a similar cam same engine with 3s on it last year in a mustang and ran 133 in the qtr. crazy mph.

Try a spacer on it I picked up quite a bit with a 2 inch spacer if you have room. Are you the one that posted that street race on here earlier this year, I watched that over and over?
