Default Ran the Valiant at the track for the first time

Had a pretty good night. Heres the run down. Car weighs 2980. Best 1/8 was a 6.99 @ 99 mph

First pass
32 degrees timing
7000 RPM shift point

1.60/11.31/120.20

Second pass
32 degrees timing
7000 RPM shift point

1.59/ throttle cable came off carb......coaaaassstttt, lol.

Third pass
32 degrees timing
7000 RPM shift point
good solid pass

1.74/11.28/121.40 Don't know what happened to the 60, felt good to me. But at this point I decided to crank up the timing and see what happened.

4th pass
36 degrees
7000 shift
good pass

1.63/11.02/122.46

5th pass
Same as 4th
good pass

1.63/11.02/122.17 At this point I was running out of night, the air got good, so I did a big old juicy burnout, and let it rip

6th pass
38 degrees
7000
good pass

1.58/10.95/122.17

All runs were made with the starting line RPM at 1500, than flashing the converter when the lights came down. The converter is tight at around 3800-4200 area, and its a cheap Ebay special, so theres room for improvement.

Overall im happy with its performance, I was just expecting a little more MPH. Eric L

Very cool. Did you drive it to the track? I bet that car gets a lot of attention as unique as it is.

No, I have an enclosed trailer with all my stuff in it, so it was just easier to trailer it. Although it's not much of an accomplishment for me, I only live 2 miles from the track, lol. FWIW when the car ran 9.60s, I drove it to the track, just to say I did it. Lol. And, yeah, it got quite a bit of attention…espically after they looked under the hood. Lol

Yeah, I'm planing on going back on Friday night to do some more tuning. Me and Doug have been going back and forth trying to find any hidden power in this combo. It's in there, we just need to find it. I think we pretty well have the timing down, and were close on jetting, but I think the converter is really hurting me. Eric L

You think this combo would like that much RPM? I was actually thinking of trying lower. 6500 or 6800 perhaps. Eric L

Its hard to say, but if the chassis is consistent, I would at least try it. I dont remember the specs on that rapid motorsports cam exactly, but I think they were around 238/248, and to me that means it should peak around 68-7000ish - so a few extra rpm over peak is always where a car runs quickest/fastest.
Do you have a wideband on it? And do you have a link to a build thread on your car?
Very cool car!

What gear was in the car again? The converter is surely holding back, and more RPM I. The shifts should make it wake up I think.

I don't have a wide band or a build thread per say. The plugs are looking good, and the strap is showing that I have timing about where I want it. The motor is a 6.0 with LS3 heads, (LY6) and the aforementioned Rapid motorsports cam. The heads were shaved .030 and the pistons were flycut .100 for valve clearance. The compression is 10.0-1 with the factory gasket and pistons .008 out of the hole.

The intake is a GM performance parts single plane, and the carb is a pro systems 780.

Im planning on keeping an eye on jetting and playing with shift points when I go back to the track on Friday. Trying to get everything ready for the Holley LS fest in September. Looks like the 11.0 class has my name ALL over it, lol. Eric L

3Pedals...ProRac1 and me built the same motor....I cut .050 and he cut .030.

I ran his info and mine....Shocking results below

ProRac1 Computed from your vehicle ET is 405.34 rear wheel HP and 450.38 flywheel HP.
Your HP computed from your vehicle MPH is 392.63 rear wheel HP and 436.25 flywheel HP.

Mine Computed from your vehicle ET is 416.16 rear wheel HP and 462.40 flywheel HP.
Your HP computed from your vehicle MPH is 392.48 rear wheel HP and 436.09 flywheel HP

I am starting to question how Dave Mizel ran so well with that same cam?

There may be a few more tenths in it with a few tricks, .3-.5 with EVERYTHING dialed in PERFECT...but still doesn't add up

Those certainly explain some ET, but they don't add up when you compare raceweight's and 1/4 mile MPH numbers. - there seems to be around 75hp missing in Doug and Eric's combos.

DM said 2900# and 5000stall......10's

PR is 2980# and 4000ish stall.....10.9/11.0

I'm at 3350ish# and 4500stall 11.32 (best to date)

Tighter quench, stall that slips less (17% if my numbers are right) and maybe bigger stall, great DA (mine shaft air)...MAYBE .5 better ET ?

That's only one part of the system, big fuel lines/breather size?

Have seen a few guys scratching their head when they have a 10 second combo, and have a restrictive fuel system that can only supply adequate fuel flow to run no better than 11 second ET.
