Been seeing cars with a 5.3 and turbo heavier than mine with a junkyard engine running 5.7 at 120ish. So that makes me want to make sure I find another 6 liter to shoot for a 5.5x.

The cars with a turbo that's too big are the ones you guys are talking about. LAG is not good on the track.

does your car have enough cage to go 5.5x? be sure you're not stupid about this and just put a bunch of motor in the car

No, not yet, but before lighter was the goal since I wanted to run as good as I could NA, and now it will just take a little more boost to make up for a added 8 or 10 point. Just cannot justify no roll cage at that point. Because I will be taking some trips to the 1/4 mile and a wreck at 140+ is not something to chance with no protection.

5.5x is dangerously close to needing a 25.X SFI chassis. that ain't something you slap together in your backyard dude.

The way I see it, a 5.5 1/8th mile time at 125 MPH is nothing a 10 point cannot handle for the same speed at the 1/4 mile. Which you only need a roll bar for just under. 11.50. If I go with that much chassis I'll buy a car that already has one as a roller. Would save a lot of cash that way.

5.50's are alot harder to run than people make it seem. Hopefully you will get there. 10 point cages will certify to 8.50. 5.50's in the 1/8 is about 8.50's in the 1/4.

A 5.5 is doable if I get another 6 liter. A 5.3? Not without opening the engine up and galling the rings. So we will see should everything come together.

Why not buy a low compression 6.2 short block, bolt on your heads and accessories? Then you can add turbo. Hardy has a very economical short block with H-beams and forged pistons.

I'm running his stuff and spraying it pretty hard. Running 5.61's. It appears to be relatively indestructible.

As much as a built motor would be sweet, it would take 2-3x longer to build and not do anything that has not been done with junkyard engines.

Guy out here has been 5.2s in the 1/8th with a cam and boosted stock 4.8. I'm not even trying to go that fast. Yet?

No, 5.5 is the goal, 5.7s is actually the easy part.

Once you start going that fast, it aint easy or cheap.....just the safety side of things gets pretty expensive. Cert cage, sfi stuff, recert.....My local track has problems anything 6.39 and faster. Ive been lucky so far.

I may be the oddball but last I check 5.7's were not too easy to run. But everybody has a different definition of easy.

It is what I will call the "slower end" of a junkyard 5.3 in a lighter chassis. So it is easy with 18-22 PSI.

Car has been 6.3s and I have only needed a helmet and a jacket, so we will say my local track is pretty laxed. Now running as fast as it is going to be, they will probably require a roll bar.....or will they?

But sorry, no results will be posted since things are really starting to hear up with my local competition and they already look on tech even not owning a GM powered anything and see what locals are posting for results.

The more I look around the funnier it gets. One guys cam only 4.8 made 920 rwhp. That's just hilarious. I've seen them push 650-750 on a 4.8 all the time, so I'm gathering more and more info constantly for what parts to use. Higher mileage the better too, since the ring gaps are larger.
