Default Winter projects

Hunting season is winding down and im back on the car a little bit. Plans for the winter include building a rear end for the car, new fuel system, some suspension work, remount the shifter, new hood and a few other small things.

I started by taking all my gauges out of the pods on the dash and making a panel for them. I will keep this thread posted, Its been years since I raced but I may join CMDR again (central MA drag racers) and get back to the track next summer a few times. We will see how this winter pans out.

no, not really. It was there last summer too just without gauges in it and it wasn't a problem. Its actually stainless, not that it makes a difference.

I removed the fuel tank, pump, filter and lines and cut the spare tire well out of the trunk. It will be nice to have the added room under the car for fuel pump, filter and exhaust. I was hoping it would save a little weight too but I don't think it will. The factory sheet metal is so thin.

It is tough, I didn't spend nearly as much time in the woods as I usually do, I have just been to busy. This Saturday is probably the last day I will get out. We shall see.

The only rot on the entire car was one little spot on the passenger side behind the rocker panel. Its sort of strange considering how rust free the rest of the car is. Its fixed now.

Looks good. You going with the 8.8 rear or going to try and hunt down a GN,442 8.5 rear? Those cars are usually hard to find with good bumper fillers.

Glad to see one not lifted and without 24's lol..

I just passed on an 8.5 because I just ordered my new hood. I Hope I didn't make a mistake, everyone thinks those rears are made of gold and it was only $500. If I can come up with a housing Its getting stuffed with some nice 30 spline axles and all the goodies.

I am really torn about the 8.8, I really don't like the choices I have for comtrol arms, I want something with a roto joint style end on it, I want to stay away from rod ends. I may end up ordering an s60 or 9" but I want the 8.5 for weight and power loss reasons

My hood finally showed up. I went with a glasstek 4" bolt on cowl. I couldn't be happier, its the best fitting glass body panel I have purchased. I didn't have to do any adjusting/fitting. Now I just have to figure out how I want to do my hood pins. I don't really trust the latch on a glass hood and Glasstek doesn't recommend it anyway.

and just an engine shot while I had the hood off

i like my aerocatch latches a lot if you're looking for a cleaner look than typical hood pins.

I went with conventional pins, mainly because I had them laying around from an old car. its not much but I got the pins mounted and drilled the hood. I still need to mount the plates to the hood and I will be done.

Picked up a foxbody rear end for $200 on craigslist. Seller said it had been rebuilt 10k miles ago. It didn't matter as its getting all new guts anyway but I checked everything anyway before I took it apart just for kicks. Pattern sucked, backlash was set at 19 thou. and the pinion had about 2 in-lbs preload. Not sure it would have survived very long lol

Its off to the sand blaster then to the chassis shop to get the tubes welded, perches welded on and straightened. Its getting 31 spline axles, new gears, carrier cap studs, support cover, ditching the companion flange for a 1350 yoke and possibly braced. I still haven't decided on 3.73's or 3.90 yet and which diff I want to run. We'll see.

I like the Trick chassis swap kit for the price but the baseline kit shines with the double adjustable uppers vs. the Trick single adjustables. I wish someone made a roto-joint style control arm for the swap instead of rod ends. oh well.

Contact Jason at PA Racing, i bet he'll make you a set of uppers with roto-joints, but i hear they don't hold up to a lot of drag race type abuse. food for thought.

I have heard that about roto joints but the car is mainly a street car. It will see the track a few times but even then, I'm not to worried with the power level I'm at

sounds good. for real, contact PA Racing though, his bread/butter is custom stuff, he just doesn't advertise it well on his website.
