Early on in my marriage, i took my wife to an ADRL event in south georgia that my parents were working (MotorManiaTV). while there, a car owner (not driver) was working with a nitrous bottle. it fell from his hands and the valve got knocked off. it turned over, and ripped into the air, filleting his chest right in the middle of the pits. it killed him.
shortly after that, there was another very public accident where a nitrous bottle exploded out the side of a trailer. thankfully no one was hurt in that instance.
i know these are far and few between, and with the way the internet is, things like this are much more public now, however, the trepidation my wife has for the stuff is real. as a result, i will not be using it in any of my cars. this does not rule out other possible power adders one day, but for now, i think i'll stick with n/a. it keeps things much simpler too.

i agree. there is risk in all aspects of this sport. look at cale aronson's recent wreck. pretty tame looking overall, and has a compression injury in his c5 vertebra
i'm just glad i have the support of my wife to pursue my dreams here. i'll do anything to keep her worry minimized.

The thing that I worry about is the guys that cut their cars all to pieces. And don't put anything in the way of a cage or frame connectors back in to keep the structural integrity. Then stick a big *** turbo or a lot of nitrous on it. Then car twists up and is completely out of control all the way down the track. Get towards the big end and there crossing the center line. You make sure your stuff is right, and then have to worry about those fools. I have seen too many people get there cars destroyed because of this. Its pathetic.

i agree. i'm on the edge of what i'll do cutting wise without adding more bars on this car. this coming winter is more chassis updates. i intend to do a full 10 pt that will cert to 8.50, with strut bars for the engine bay. my biggest concern is safety. the car will run out of cage this year. my chassis is only good to 10.00.

And here I am reading to run 8s in the near future with a fire suit and a helmet. Lol
I just accept I'm more likely to get killed driving 3 miles from my house to work. I am very careful with my nitrous bottles and refuse to leave them in the car when full. The sun in Texas will make bad things happen to a bottle left in a vehicle mid day.

lol, I was at my local 1/8 a few years ago and some people trailered in a ghetto as hell 2nd gen Camaro. I told someone near me "there is no way in hell that thing will pass inspection"
sure enough, it did and 10 minutes later it was sliding down the track on the roof. it's good entertainment for everyone not lined up against them.

You spend all that time making sure its right and safe. Then you pull up to the line and you got one of those fools next to you. I saw a guy in a $100,000.00 camaro get took out by a cut up mustang with Ebay twin turbos. The mustang ran 8's if he could get it down the track. That mustang couldn't have been worth more than $5000.00 and I'll bet that's mostly motor. Car looked like a $500.00 beater. All stock suspension. No cage or frame connectors, and was all cut up. I know **** happens but WTF.
