Heavy Car cam selection - 5.3 + Carb + TH400 + 650CFM ?
Title really says it all.
What are you guys running on the street for heavy lead sleds?
This would be a simple carb swapped 5.3 into a heavy sedan with TH400 and 650 carb. Normal MSD 6010 trigger setup.
Again this is for the street, not racing.
Keep with the stock truck cam? IDK???
Torque converter selection or keep that stock too?
Any help is appreciated. Most people want all out performance and this is a little different and I haven't seen a thread on it before.
Thanks!

Is there a budget? What gear do you have in the rear? something in the mid 220's duration wise on a 112 would be a nice upgrade over the stock cam with about a 3000 stall. There's endless possibilities but it's honestly going to come down to your budget and what you're trying to accomplish with your vehicle.

I don't see anything in your post that makes me think you would need anything other than stock.
If you do want more power, but don't want to make any sacrifices in drivability, then you should look at one of these:

Which one would depend on the intake you choose, which gear is in the rear & how tall the tire is as well as what you are going to be doing with the truck. With these, the stock torque converter is fine.

Those are all very mild, anything around 210-220 @ .050" would be fine in almost any application.
Don't see the point spending money on a cam for anything less, otherwise find a second hand standard or very mild LS1 cam perhaps.

Great info guys!
This project is a little ways off. But trying to get right on parts and build up the motor before hand for a quick swap. It didn't hit me, but I bet a LS1 stock cam would work perfectly as it is pretty mild with yellow springs.
I'll bite my tongue for now on the car
The truck in comparison ended up with a 5.3 with LS2 cam and T5 manual trans.
