Default randome carb question

hey guys. dont know where to ask this might be a dumb question as well.
i was helping a friend while he was tuning his car. he removed both pump cams from the carb. here is where we got into the discussion. he thinks the notched side of the pump cam goes toward the arm and i thought the notched side goes farthest away from the arm. or does it even matter.

you use the number 1 slot for a quicker activation of the accelerator pump. Usually needed with a small cam that allows you to idle around 600-800 rpm. The number 2 hole is used for cams with rougher idle up around 1000+. go to youtube and type in Holley accelerator pump cams. Holley has videos explaining it.

Notched side toward the spring in order to clear the spring or away from the arm, as you have noted. Doesn't really matter unless you had mounted it toward the arm & then got it cocked by over tightening the bolt. Although, bolt threads would probably strip before the cam got cocked out of alignment. Regardless, toward the carb body, farthest away from the arm, is the correct orientation.

after reading the question again I see that I was confused. The pump cams I have are smooth on both sides with no notch. I see that some other cams including factory ones have a notch in them. After looking online at some holley pages LS1-450 explains the correct position
