Default 12.5 Comp Ration on pump gas or E85?

Hey Everyone, Im building a high compression 5.3 running a stock bore with some +6cc Wiseco pistons and milled 241 heads with a static compression ratio of 12.5:1 and Im wondering if I might be able to run this thing on 91/93? of if I'll for sure need to run E85...... Its going to have Edelbrock Super Victor intake with a carburetor(not sure of a brand yet but will probably go with Pro-Systems) The cam I have is pretty big (yes ive already been told not to run it but im going to try it anyway because I got it cheap) its lift is .635/.635 with a 1.8 rocker, i'll be running a 1.7 though and its duration is 281/271 @ 0.050" 108 LSA. I'll be running LS7 lifters with shorter pushrods and a PRW 1.7 shaft mount rocker setup. Ive tried to do as much homework as I can but only being able to use my phone for research has crippled me alot so Im hoping for some input from some LS pro's on here. Thanks in advance for all the help, I greatly appreciate it!

126 reads and not a single reply? Lol thats either really bad or really good. I'll prob have to call the experts to get an answer but I was hoping for at least a pointer or two.

12.5 is to much for 91-93 IMO. When doing my build we settled on 11.5 as being the highest we should go to give that cushion in case of bad gas or things like that

Thats kinda what I figured. I was kinda already planning on running E85 but it'd be nice to be able to run 91 or 93 since E85 isn't sold everywhere.

Yeah I hear ya. Not much E85 around you? It's becoming pretty widespread here in southeast michigan

It's around here (I'm in central Missouri) but I wanna be able to drive this thing when I get it done and I'd hate to end up somewhere I can't fill up lol

Maybe consider dropping the compression down a bit then run a small shot of nitrous. It will be even faster this way when you need that kick, and you'll be able to run pump gas with no problem. Just a thought

I would but with the cam I'm running Comp advised me anything less than 12.5:1 and it won't run right.

That's about the truth lol. I went into this expecting to run stock rods with cheap hypereutectic flat top pistons and now imma be running over a grand in piston and rods lol

Yep lol. I bought my car as a HCI LS1 originally, and 6 months later the motor blew....8 grand later I have a fully forged 6.0. Was not expecting to sink this kind of money into a 2000 Camaro right from the get go lol

Hey Mat if your considering going E-85. You might want to call your carb builder, and ask him about the intake. We have close to the same cam you have, with more compression. IMO there are Three carb builders for E-85 to choose from, Pro Systems, Horsepower Innovations, or Mark Sullens. I'm sure there are others. We chose Sullens. He does things a little different then the others. He likes gas like timing, and hot plugs. Then tune the carb to that. If your running a hydraulic cam, you can only spin it in the lower 7000 range safely, and that will not create enough velocity in a super vic to pull the fuel through the circuits right according to Sullens. He had us go with a Vic JR to create velocity. Only porting was to port match. Only spacer was a 1/2" 4 hole Edelbrock wood to kill the heat transfer to the carb. Not to make volume. He said with a solid cam spinning 8500 plus, is a whole different story. Everyone (other than these three) told us we needed a 4150 1050 cfm. Well Sullens built us a bad *** 850. All three told me the same on CFM. So all I'm saying is, make a lot of phone calls before you buy anything else. Remember if you go E-85. You have to make sure your fuel system is compatible also. Best of luck to you with your build. Its going to thump hard. Lol
