I haven't seen a negative review yet, and it does get recommended on here. I think Speedtigger did a review but I can't seem to find the link. Maybe someone else will chime in.

I just got one Saturday. Is there a detailed install thread? It looks pretty strait forward, but i was thinking of doing a step by step write up if there's interest in it.

It would be a great benefit if you could post the timing table graph. This will demonstrate the advantage of being able to program multiple points of timing, not just the standard MSD 6 points adjusted by a limited slope.

I agree. Some more tech on this would be nice.

Every one of these points is adjustable at various levels of MAP. So, the possibilities are endless.

As quick way to get acquainted with the Smart Sparks capabilities is to read through the instructions:

Another key feature is having the ability to modify spark dwell time, Important for truck coils. This controller gets you closer to what's possible in an efi style pcm tune. Granted there are a lot more programable variables available in an efi pcm tune, but, this controller covers the important ones.

I just received my smartspark yesterday. The box is very nice, but I'm a little disappointed with the wiring harness.

First off, $200 is ridiculous for a wiring harness. I could have modified my stock harness and added deutsch connectors for almost nothing. I contemplated it, but decided against it due to time and warranty issues. I ordered the LS1/LS6 remote mount harness, but the cam/crank connectors barely reach, and that's with everything else disconnected. For $200 I shouldn't have to be cutting anything to make it fit comfortably.

Asaide from that, it appears to be a great product.

First I've heard of an issue with the wiring being short. We have installed many unit with no issues. How much longer would you like the leads to be ?

While it was possible for the cam/crank sensors to reach (not very comfortably), the crank sensor plug had to go over the header flange in order to reach. This means that the header has to go on first, except that there's no way for me to fit the plug on with the headers in the way unless I take the starter off. And even then, I still don't like the wires going that close to the headers.

What I ended up doing was taking a section (~2ft?) of the original gm crank sensor plug and a spare female connector and making an extension for it. Now the wiring goes around the passenger side head to the crank sensor. Much more room for comfort and IMO the safe, correct way to put it together.

If I get a chance I'll try to take a picture.

Agree that certain plug wires are not ideal lengths with the harness, they got it about 90% right though. But still a quality piece for an aftermarket product.

Mine is too short.

I had to make a 24" extension cord, like Greg H said, your harness is 24" too short.

The 1-3-5-7 coil pack plug was too long, but i can deal with that.

Where is your cam sensor? In the block or on the timing cover?
