Default Carbed nitrous

What timing is everyone running with nitrous? I know the baseline 2* per 50 hp but would like to see what people are running. Y'all could put down compression, shot size, and timing on the bottle and timing N/A. Thanks

30 on a 150 shot. No signs of detonation

every combo wants something different. don't concearn yourself with other peoples tunes and tune your engine for what it wants. 2* per 50hp is a safe baseline. you can probably give it more timing from there no problem. then again, maybe your engine will still want less. speedtriggers engine runs best at 28* (going off memory) while everyone else does best in the 33-36 range. it ran it's *** off and he didn't concearn himself with how much timing other people ran as long as his car was happy at 28*.

just my opinion.

As stated every engine and scenario is different. My advice is Tune Tune Tune on motor. I made at least 60-80 motor hits before I was satisfied I couldn't get any more out of the car. Then I moved on to my nitrous tune. Learn how to read spark plugs!! can't stress this enough or how important even on the smallest shot.

I would start timing at 28 degrees on motor, with a -6 plug, make a pass, pull a plug and check. Move timing up 1 degree at a time and keep checking plugs after each pass. When you have it dialed in on motor, it's time to start over lol.

Here's where the 2 degrees for every 50 comes in. My car didn't like this. From everyone else telling me what to do, I would've pulled 4 degrees for my 100 shot and used a -7 plug, some even said leave the -6

The car picked up from a 6.65 on motor to a 6.32 on a 100 shot. Now after tons of passes collecting data, I ended up with a -8 plug and pulling 7 degrees of timing and car went 5.97 on the same jet after all dialed in. Good luck and remember, BABY STEPS

PS- this is what a good nitrous plug looks like. This was a good safe tuneup that could've used a little more timing, there wasn't any heat in the base ring.

Wow that's some really good info thank you. Do you know why your motor likes so much timing pulled for a 100 shot? I realize there will be a lot of trial and error finding out what My motor likes

No clue lol, I just gave it what it likes. I always tune off plugs and MPH. Start low and keep giving it timing until plug says no or MPH drops and back up.

Keep in mind it's fuel related too. My motor liked 31 on 93 and made 18 more rwhp on 110 because it liked 34.

Wideband is a good monitoring tool, some people have a specific # in mind but there again, watch MPH. My car ran best at 13.2:1 AFR on motor and 13:1 on Nitrous. Most people will say no more than 12:1 on nitrous but that wasn't the case with mine

Good luck

Thanks. What do you think has helped you the most in reading spark plugs?

Pulling lots and lots of plugs. On my nitrous car we cut plugs after every pass. That's why I have a NA car now lol, too much work.

I put a fresh plug in my hottest cylinder before every pass in staging, shut the car off at the stripe, and throw an old plug back in on the return road so I have that one good plug to cut when I get back to pits. ANY idle time at all will ruin your readings.

Always tune for most MPH, that tells you if the car is making power and responding to what you're doing. The old sayings of the plug should be this or that color and the timing strap needs to be at the bend isn't always true, every engine is different.

Good Luck

I would also start at 3degrees per 50hp.
It's easier to add timing than new pistons....

33* on motor.....

11* on ""350-400"" shot...

There are tons of variables, always start conservative... Add half a degree and watch your fueling, add a little timing then fuel if needed, then a little more timing etc etc until you slow up or plugs start getting hot
