Default Msd 6014 problems

Having problems firing my 5.3 in my S10. I have read and reread threads on troubleshooting the 6014. I have checked the coil pack harnesses they are right. I have had an error with the cam position sensor that I replaced and fixed. Just seems like it is out of time and popping and backfiring. Won't start at all. Changed the timing curve to 18deg from 0-800 and ramping up to 32deg at 3000. Tried all the presets to no avail. First time building ls and probably missing something small.

motor spec
5.3 Gen 3
Stock internal
TSP torquer 2 cam
Vic Jr intake
Holley 750
Aeromotive fuel system running 6.5psi

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated!!!

Are you using the rear cam sensor or did you move it to the front cover?

Are the cam and crank sensor new?

It is still the rear sensor and yes both are brand new. Both are Borg Warner. I replaced the cam sensor after it was throwing a fault. I don't know if it is actually bad after reading a few threads.

I've traced the coil harness out. It's right. Msd thinks maybe it's pinned wrong. Gonna check that today.

Is your crank sensor black, or gray? If it's gray, you have the wrong one.

Not yet. Haven't had much time to mess with it. MSD wants me to use a meter to check the pulse coming from the cam sensor wire from the box. And to check continuity along the wire from plugin to box. I'm really contemplating buying a Daytona LS box and be done with it.

on the Neanderthal carb thread, I had an issue and thought it was my 6014 this week. switch box, coils, plugs, wires, carb. luckily for me my friend had all the parts to try. and unbelievable it was my crank sensor. Never showed a fault on my laptop. it has shown camshaft faults but never a crank sensor. it sputtered and popped out of the carb and barely run under load but at least idle in park.

oh compared to the MSD 6014, I'm still glad I sold my Daytona box a while ago

So I got it fired. Went back over the entire harness, re pinned wires just to make sure they were clipped. Got mad and pumped the **** out of the carb and it fired up on first crank. I thought I was gonna burn it down with the amount of fuel I dumped in the carb. Next question, I have my regulator set in 6.5lbs. How much fuel does an ls need?

Carb usually takes about 6 to 7 lb range. That's a standard on any motor. Size, jets etc fine tunes the engine by size, vac it makes, how it leaves.
