Why such a big carb? You don't need a double roller either, its not an sbc, but if you already have it, use it.
Id use holleys carb calculator to find carb choice, esp with ~327 cid.
A 6800rpm shift shows a 650 or even 670.

The carb is big I know but I had it from my last build and works good. Double roller is cheap insurance I wouldn't have it any other way. This engine is in and running just looking for some constructive feedback on what others have done.

Ok. from doing carb builds too, id say take some time with the timing box and make a few shakedowns if you can. i assume youve got the msd or equivalent and a laptop of course.
Ive seen em take 26 to 30 degrees, but the best thing about em is its not stuck there.

Itll be a fun setup and honestly 6600 to 6800 might be where it should shift. The single planes and smaller cid hold power way better in the upper rpms than the larger cid and reg long runner fuel inj manifolds.

Interesting mix of old and new school. Cam is pretty big and good flowing heads, if the exhaust flows right and you have a single plane like suggested you should be able to use that much carb. Ought to be thumper as well.

I started playing with the timing start 12* ramp to 24* 700 flat through 1100 ramp to 32* 1100-3000 all in. Pulls hard starts good when hot, still playing with it. Any recommendations on timing?

Dont time it like a distributor. You dont need to go all in. normally ill take it down 1 or 2 degrees a 5000-5300 then back up 2 to 3 degrees til it stops making power. Starting at 2k id recommend being in the 20s really then up and down an up like a wave.

The carburetor is fine. This is not an old wheezer small block chevy or ford. A 780 will work great on a hot 5.3. Especially a vacuum secondary.

That looks pretty good. You just have to be a bit more careful on how soon you ramp in the timing in a manual transmission car. If you notice any pinging at WOT between 2500 and 5000, you may have to pull back the timing a bit there. But overall, nice strategy.
